2024 MA Senate race: on Civil Rights

John Deaton: Enshrine equal marriage in law

LGBTQ Rights: One of the great policy failures of the 21st century was overreliance on Roe to protect women's access to abortion. Similarly, LGBTQ families in many states are only recognized legally because of the 2015 Obergefell decision by the Supreme Court. It is the responsibility of Congress and the Senate to enshrine the right to equal marriage under the law, and I promise to introduce that legislation in my first year in office.

John Deaton: Supports marriage equality

[Deaton] is a candidate who melds that Trumpian appeal to the working class with a moderation on social issues--he supports abortion rights and marriage equality--that should be familiar to Massachusetts voters.

"I am tired of these presidential candidates not representing the people that I care about--that's the working class & the poor. I got in this race because they are not being represented," he said. "When you look at the Senate, you do not see someone who has been working 50 hours a week."
