Bill Eigel in 2024 MO Governor's race

On Crime: We need leaders who will DEFEND our police not DEFUND them

We need leaders who will DEFEND our police, not DEFUND them. Each and every day, they risk their lives to protect our families and, each and every day, I'll fight to protect our brave police officers in the Missouri Senate. I'm honored to have earned the endorsement of the Fraternal Order of Police. I'll always have your back!

On Abortion: Voted for Heartbeat Bill banning abortion in Missouri

Defending Life. Abortion (except in cases of medical emergency) is now illegal in Missouri. Eigel has always been Pro-Life and will continue to defend the most vulnerable Missourians--those that have yet to be born. Eigel voted for the Heartbeat Bill which made Missouri the first state in the United States to ban abortions. Missouri public monies should not be used to support any organization that provides abortion to women, inside Missouri or outside our borders.

On Budget & Economy: Cap spending immediately, reduce each year

Reign In Out of Control Spending in Jefferson City: Missouri's budget has grown from $20 billion in 2010 to $49 billion in 2022. We must restore fiscal conservatism. Eigel supports capping spending immediately at current levels and reducing spending each year to bring down reliance on Washington DC and waste in Jefferson City. This overdue restraint will produce significant revenue surpluses that will be used to fund the elimination of personal property and income taxes in the Show Me State.

On Education: Prohibit biological boys from playing in girls sports

Prohibit Biological Boys from playing in Girls Sports: In defense of our daughters right to compete fairly in sports leagues during primary, secondary, and higher education, Bill Eigel supports prohibiting biological boys from participating in any girls sporting event.

On Education: Ban "hate-based ideology," other "woke" programs in schools

Eliminate Hate-Based Ideologies such as Critical Race Theory, the 1619 Project, and other "woke" programs in public schools: When children are taught to hate their country and each other, the foundation of Missouri and America is at risk. Eigel supports penalties for any school that teaches these damaging ideologies and supports parents' rights to choose different educational paths for their children and their tax dollars where public schools persist in spreading these damaging policies.

On Education: Give parents access to curricula and lesson plan records

Guarantee Parents Transparent Access to Public School Curriculum and Lesson Plans: Parents have a right to know what's being taught in their children's classrooms. Bill Eigel supports legal requirements for school districts to maintain easy to understand and electronically searchable curricula and lesson plan records, available at all times on the homepage of the website hosted by the district.

On Government Reform: No more machines; hand count ballots on election day

Require Ballot Counting by Hand: The 2020 election exposed numerous vulnerabilities in the election process, most notably with voting machines that are possibly vulnerable to unscrupulous special interests. Bill Eigel supports requiring election authorities to hand count ballots on election day and maintain ballots in storage for five years after an election. NO MORE MACHINES controlling our elections.

On Gun Control: 2nd amendment protects us from tyrannical government

[On the 2nd Amendment]: "Shall NOT Be Infringed" is straightforward. The government shall not prevent lawful citizens from owning/obtaining firearms. Bill Eigel voted for The Second Amendment Preservation Act. He supports Castle Doctrine, constitutional carry, the intrinsic right to defend one's life and property, and the idea that the 2nd Amendment was written to articulate our right to protect ourselves from tyrannical government, not just hunting and self-defense.

On Health Care: Prohibit transgender-related treatment for children under 18

Prohibit Transgender-related Medical Procedures for Children Under 18: We are seeing increasing evidence of the devastating effect of transgender-based medical procedures, therapies, treatments, prescriptions, and exposure to children under the age of 18. Eigel supports the prohibition of any treatment or service that tries to inflict transgender therapies or medical procedures on any individual under the age of 18.

On Health Care: Time to reform bloated, inefficient, ineffective Medicaid

I look forward to reviewing and helping any lawmaker that is serious about reforming our Medicaid program, so that it actually focuses on successful outcomes and saving taxpayers money. I'm under no illusion that Missouri's Medicaid program will be run like a business overnight, but the time to reform this bloated, inefficient, ineffective program is now.

On Homeland Security: Calls for restrictions on foreign ownership of farmland

Eigel has moved to call a special session on foreign ownership. The bill, sponsored by Eigel, would have prohibited foreign entities--both individuals and businesses--from purchasing any real estate--not just farmland. "Governor, we cannot afford to wait until January to address this important issue," Eigel wrote. "Our farmers and ranchers deserve to know that we have their back and that we aren't going to let foreign interests buy up our farmland and put Missouri farmers out of business."

On Jobs: Defund all government DEI-based positions and programs

These so called DEI training programs and positions are based on a lie. The lie is that by defining and treating people differently based on their sex, race, or religion, we can somehow expect better outcomes in terms of performance, morale, and government efficiency. Only in the most woke, liberal, leftist and Marxist visions of America would this make any kind of sense. Therefore, as Governor, I would immediately defund all DEI-based positions and programs across Missouri government.

On Principles & Values: Prosecution of Trump is atrocious abuse of power

As the left continues to weaponize the US Justice System against its political rivals, Eigel and the people of Missouri say enough is enough. For the first time in history a former President is under threat of arrest and indictment at the hands of an over-zealous, politcally-motivated New York City District Attorney. Republicans across the country stand against this atrocious abuse of power and the dangerous precedent the Left is willing to set with this threat.

On Principles & Values: I believe that God has a plan for each and every one of us

I am a big believer that God has a plan for each and every one of us. Oftentimes, it is challenging to understand how that Divine Plan is unfolding here on an imperfect Earth. Especially this year, as folks have dealt with significant cultural and economic challenges, understanding the specific paths His plan is taking for each of us is even more difficult to decipher.

On Tax Reform: Repeal the regressive state personal property tax

Repeal Personal Property Tax in Missouri: No one should be punished every December 1st for the "crime" of just owning a car. Bill Eigel supports repealing personal property tax. This terribly regressive tax specifically harms middle and working class households. Under Bill Eigel's plan, personal property tax will be phased out over several years, ensuring that local entity budgets currently tied to this funding can adjust and plan. NO MORE TAXING MISSOURIANS JUST FOR OWNING A CAR.

On Tax Reform: Eliminate the corporate and personal income tax in Missouri

Eliminate Missouri Personal and Corporate Income Tax: Statistically, the states that have the fastest growing populations (and by extension, fastest growing economies) are those that have no personal income tax. It's time Missouri join Texas, Florida, and Tennessee and enact the #1 pro-growth policy in America by eliminating the income tax. Bill Eigel supports eliminating the corporate and personal income tax in Missouri.

On Foreign Policy: The ONLY candidate who'll ban China owning Missouri land

Jay Ashcroft has become a vocal cheerleader for restricting foreign-owned farmland. Now, Ashcroft's opponents are using his past advocacy against him. A campaign ad titled "Cows" depicts a bovine forced to learn a new language "now that my farm is owned by China."

Bill Eigel says Jay Ashcroft hasn't gone far enough when it comes to countering foreign-owned land. But Ashcroft's campaign said Eigel, who is pushing for an all-out ban on foreign ag land ownership, actually voted for allowing foreign ownership in the past.

Ashcroft referred to 2023 legislation Eigel voted for that allows foreign governments to own farmland for "nonfarming" purposes.

Eigel has also filed his own legislation to ban all foreign-owned agricultural land. The measure would require "aliens and foreign businesses" to "divest interest in agricultural land in the state" by 2027. "Bill Eigel is the ONLY candidate for governor who wants to ban all foreign entities from owning Missouri land," says Eigel's spokesperson.

On Immigration: Call out militia to deport undocumented immigrants

Bill Eigel promised that if elected governor he'd invoke a provision in the Missouri Constitution allowing him to call out the militia to round up and deport undocumented immigrants. That means mobilizing sheriffs, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the National Guard, Eigel said. "I'm also the only candidate for governor that's gonna go after every one of the 50,000 to 70,000 illegal immigrants that are bringing crime into our community," Eigel said, adding: "And if I have to drive the buses myself to the border of this country, we're going to take our state back, folks."

Eigel said he was not worried about the logistics of feeding, housing and providing for other basic needs of the thousands he would take into custody. "We have jails across the state that can serve as holding facilities," Eigel said.

He also said he is unconcerned about the cost. "I'm pretty sure that we have the surplus necessary to buy a fleet of buses that we're going to use to actually transport these individuals."

On Principles & Values: People hate politicians because government is out of control

Jay Ashcroft and Bill Eigel both alluded to Mike Kehoe's support for boosting either sales taxes or gas taxes to fund the state's transportation infrastructure.

Eigel said "to have somebody stand up on this stage today, who has backed the largest tax increases in Missouri history, tried to present themselves as a tax cutter--that's why people hate politicians, folks."

Eigel dinged both Ashcroft and Kehoe, saying, "Don't be afraid of the message that we can't take our state back because I don't have enough lobbyist money or I don't have the right last name from my dad. I got involved with politics when I realized that our government is out of control. And there's a reckoning needed all over this country," Eigel said. "And I got into this, just like millions of Missourians are getting into this political discussion right now, because of everything that is wrong in our government, everything that they're hearing from politicians and all the broken promises that they're tired of seeing."

On Homeland Security: Ensure veterans' sacrifice is honored when they return home

Jay Ashcroft came under withering criticism this week following recent comments suggesting special benefits for veterans are unfair. Ashcroft said, "I think we ought to treat everybody equally. I don't think we ought to say if you're in the military, we give this discount but everybody else has to pay twice as much. I don't think that's good government."

Bill Eigel, who served in the Air Force, said he was "stunned to hear one of the candidates up here say he's really not interested in looking into veterans' issues or helping them out." Eigel, who is running a hard-right campaign for governor, later shared a video of Ashcroft's comments on social media. "I know first hand the struggles that our veterans and active military personnel face. I lost friends. I saw the struggle upon returning to the States," he wrote on social media. "I disdain the ruling elite who send our men and women to die in their wars, all while doing nothing to ensure their sacrifice is honored when they return home."

On Abortion: Defeat the abortion initiative; defend the sanctity of life

This November, thanks to weak establishment Republicans and our weak initiative petition [IP] laws, we could see abortion legalized up until the moment of birth.

As governor, I will be a leader and we will defeat the abortion initiative in November.

Republicans across Missouri have demanded IP reform for years. With the very real possibility of the IP process being used to enshrine abortion in our constitution, we must fight like never before. Desperate times call for desperate measures. We must defend the sanctity of life and do what it takes to ensure abortion is never legalized in Missouri.

Currently, a simple majority of 50% is all that is needed to amend the Missouri Constitution. I support concurrent majority ratification which would require a majority of legislative districts, ensuring the voices of all Missourians are heard and not just the big cities. We must ensure constitutional amendments are broadly supported across all areas of our state and ensure rural representation.

On Budget & Economy: Cut spending to allow eliminating income tax

I am the ONLY candidate who will eliminate personal property tax and income tax. You should not have to pay "rent" to the government every December 1st for the "crime" of just owning a car in the form of a personal property tax. 29 other states have already gotten rid of personal property tax, Missouri is going to be the 30th. My plan is to cut the necessary spending at the state level and backfill the local areas to keep them whole. The local areas won't lose a dime. I have been advocating for eliminating the income tax for years. My copycat opponents recently decided to come around to my position just in time for campaign season. As a Senator, I actually passed the largest single year state income tax cut in Missouri history (HB 2540).

On Foreign Policy: Ban ALL foreign countries from owning ANY Missouri land

I am the ONLY candidate who wants to ban ALL foreign countries from owning ANY Missouri land. Missouri ought to be owned by Missourians, or at least Americans. In the MO Senate, I filed a constitutional amendment to ban ALL foreign ownership of MO land and to TAKE BACK the land already in foreign hands. We are getting every single square inch of our land back! My opponents lie about their record. Before 2013, it was illegal for foreign countries to buy our land. Then, Mike Kehoe, aka Kung Pao Kehoe, voted 4 times to sell 270,000 acres of our land to China. That same year, Kung Pao Kehoe received $8,500 from the CHINESE company who bought our land. Jay Ashcroft supported SB 55, which would have allowed 135,000 acres of our land to be sold.

On Health Care: Obamacare was shoved down the throat of small business

As a small business owner, I learned how to cut waste and turn a struggling business around. Despite the challenges of the economic recession in 2008 and 2009, we expanded to serve customers nationwide.

I didn't want anything to do with politics. As a business owner, the government was always regulating my company, telling me how to run my business, and taxing me to no end.

When Obamacare was shoved down the throat of my small business, our premiums tripled and our coverage was worse.

That caused me to get involved and eventually run for state senate in 2016.

As a senator, I've been the same person I promised to be. I was a founding member of the Conservative Caucus and the MO Freedom Caucus.

On Immigration: Build the wall; deport all 77,000 illegal aliens in MO

I am the ONLY candidate with a plan to DETAIN and DEPORT every single one of the estimated 77,000 illegal aliens already in MO. Not only do I unequivocally 100% stand with President Donald J. Trump and support building the wall, but I have a plan to take action in Missouri! My first day as governor, I will declare an invasion under Article IV of the Missouri Constitution. This will allow me to mobilize the Highway Patrol, National Guard, and every Sheriff in this state; and we're going to DETAIN and DEPORT the illegals already in MO. When democrats in Colorado and Maine tried to ban Trump from the ballot, I fought back and filed a bill to kick Joe Biden off the ballot in MO for the invasion he's allowing to occur at our southern border.

On War & Peace: I disdain the ruling elite who send us to war

Q: What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

A: As a USAF veteran who was deployed overseas, I know first hand the struggles that our veterans and active military personnel face. I lost friends. I saw the struggle upon returning home. I disdain the ruling elite who send our men and women to die in their wars, all while doing nothing to ensure their sacrifice is honored. I filed a bill to

  1. eliminate the COVID-19 vaccine mandates for the National Guard,
  2. eliminate the income tax on National Guard signing bonuses, and
  3. ban all foreign ownership of land within 500 miles of our military bases.
As a small business owner, I believe the way to achieve economic growth is to cut taxes and red tape across the board. Government picking winners and losers is NOT the way to do it.

On Environment: Legislate against these woke, liberal ESG scores

Q: Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?

A: No. I have filed legislation for the past several years to go after these woke, liberal ESG scores.

On Families & Children: Bible is clear: marriage is between one man and one woman

Q: Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman.

A: Strongly Agree. As a Christian, I believe what the Bible says. The Bible is clear that marriage is between one man and one woman.

Q: VALUES: Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation?

A: Strongly Agree. I co-sponsored the SAFE Act in Missouri, which BANNED sex change surgeries and hormones on children under the age of 18. I am proud to stand against the groomers and pedophiles who want to indoctrinate our children with their woke gender ideology.

Q: Parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children?

A: Strongly Agree. I am a strong believer in parental rights; however, a parent does not have the right to abuse their child with gender transition chemicals and procedures.

Q: Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services?

A: Strongly Disagree

Q: States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.

A: Strongly Disagree

On Homeland Security: Chinese Communist Party poses serious threat

Q: The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

A: Strongly Agree. I have sponsored legislation to BAN all foreign countries from buying land in Missouri. I have also filed a constitutional amendment to take back all the land currently in foreign hands. My amendment to ban all foreign countries from owning land passed the Missouri Senate this year.

On Jobs: Regulate minimum wage by free market

Q: ECONOMY: What is your position on the minimum wage?

A: The government should not force business to increase the minimum wage; it should be regulated by the free market.

Q: Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

A: Strongly Agree

Source: AFA iVoterGuide on 2024 Missouri Gubernatorial race Aug 8, 2024

On Principles & Values: The government should NEVER be able to close churches

Q: RELIGIOUS LIBERTYUnder what circumstances can government close churches?

A: None whatsoever. The government should NEVER be able to close churches. I always opposed the COVID lockdowns. I am adamantly opposed to mask/vaccine mandates. Our rights come from God, not the government.

Q: Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

A: Strongly Disagree.

On War & Peace: Israel is our greatest ally, and we must stand with them

Q: NATIONAL SECURITY: Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

A: Yes, it is very important. Israel is our greatest ally, and we must stand with them. I sponsored SCR 25 this year in the Missouri Senate. SCR 25 commends Israel for its cordial and mutually beneficial relationship with Missouri and the United States, supports Israel's right to exist, and recognizes Jerusalem as the eternal capital of Israel.
