I deployed to Iraq on my first of three tours of duty in the War on Terror, before later being stationed at the Pentagon. During those 13 years of active duty I learned firsthand what service and sacrifice for your country really means, the same things I had heard about down at the Apache Flats Marine Corps League: Doing the right thing when you're thousands of miles from home, believing in a mission that's bigger than yourself, and never forgetting the community you signed up to serve.

Karla May: Youth minister at Grow 2 Go Christian Center

Born and raised in the City of St. Louis, Sen. May currently resides in the city's 26th Ward, and has been employed with AT&T for 25 years. She attends Grow 2 Go (G2G) Christian Center (formerly St. Louis Christian Center) where she has served as youth minister since October of 2001, serves on the Pastor's Think Tank, outreach ministry and the intercessory prayer ministry. She holds an ASBA from Forest Park Community College and a BSBA from Saint Louis University.

Karla May: Represents 4th State Senatorial District since 2019

Senator Karla May, a Democrat, represents the 4th Senatorial District comprised of a portion of the City of St. Louis, Richmond Heights and Shrewsbury; Townships of Clayton, Hadley, Jefferson and Gravois; and portions of Maplewood. She was sworn into office on Jan. 9, 2019.

Josh Hawley: America is Christian; I advocate Christian nationalism

Missouri's Senior Senator stood firm after an eye-opening speech advocating America be only about one religion: Christianity.

"In our history and in our ideals, America has been a Christian nation," Hawley said during his interview with First Alert 4. "I think most Americans believe in God and think religion is important and we should defend those folks."

"Some will say now that I am calling America a Christian nation. So I am," Hawley shared. "And some will say that I am advocating Christian nationalism. And so I do."

First Alert 4 asked Hawley how he can endorse Christian nationalism while also endorsing Former President Trump following his publicly known issues with infidelity, inciting an insurrection, and being a convicted felon. Hawley said First Alert 4's [reporter] has what he called, "Full Trump Derangement Syndrome," and said that question is not serious journalism.

Lucas Kunce called [Hawley's] speech and Christian nationalism overall about control and said it takes away an individual's freedom. "It is an agenda of controlling everyday people in the doctor's office, in the workplace, in their bedroom and for a freedom-loving state like Missouri, that's bad," Kunce said.
