Dale Folwell: Let treasurers sue Russian entities for investment losses

North Carolina's State Treasurer, Dale Folwell, is urging Congress to pass a bill to allow treasurers across the country to sue Russian-based entities. He said he would like to see a provision in its next aid package to Ukraine to allow treasurers across the country to take action.

He says the state's $120 billion retirement plan includes some assets with ties to Russia. Folwell says losses stand at about $80 million and changing the law would help get some of that money back.

Mark Walker: For lethal aid to Ukraine; not US boots on the ground

Addressing a question about the U.S. role in Ukraine, all three [GOP Senate primary] candidates said they support Ukrainians in the war with Russia. They all also agreed that the United States should not send troops into Ukraine. "I think that we need to provide every bit of lethal aid that we can to President Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian leaders, but I am not going to go as far as saying it's time to send boots on the ground," Walker said.

A: As the only democracy in the Middle East, and one that consistently stands against Islamic extremist terrorism, Israel is one of our country's strongest allies. After the terrorist attacks of October 2023, Israel once again came under attack by their enemies that seek to wipe the Jewish people off the map. I went to Israel after the attacks and saw what the people of Israel are up against. North Carolina and the United States must stand with Israel and the Jewish people against terrorism.

Josh Stein: Supports a two-state solution for Israel/Palestine

Stein told the News & Observer last year that a two-state solution was the answer to a "permanent resolution" in the region. "Hamas represents a real threat to Israel," he told the N&O. "Israel is justified to try to address that threat. They have to do it in a way that minimizes … the impact on civilians because there are a couple of million Palestinians who live in Gaza who have nothing to do with Hamas, and are just trying to live their lives."
