Preston Love in 2024 NE Senate race

On Welfare & Poverty: Address Black poverty to address lack of Black voting

Black Lives, Black Poverty and Black Votes Matter: Protests to bring attention to all these critical Black matters should be non-stop. The efforts to address and eradicate these injustices should be our community's full time effort. My focus is directed toward our votes (or lack thereof). It is my contention that our poverty is the dominant factor that has created the horror of the other two "matters," lives and poverty. In my recent book "Economic Cataracts," I develop the relationships between our poverty and our dismal voting, and suggest the immediate and long term need for Economic Inclusion. Our community needs wealth. Stated simply, poor people have trouble caring or participating in a system that is failing them. Poor people are trying to survive or surviving in a small but separate crime-filled culture within. Voting is not on the list of their to do's. I don't agree with this logic. In fact, I believe we are making things worse by buying into this "I could care less" scenario.

On Crime: Advocated for fairer application of criminal justice

Love is a mainstay of Democratic politics in Omaha and much of the state. He has worked to organize voters in communities of color and has sought investment in historic neighborhoods.

He has also advocated for fairer application of criminal justice, including prison reforms and other programs for people leaving prison, aimed at job training and life skills.

On Energy & Oil: Tell the truth about climate change and respond to it

I am very concerned about environmental evolution going the wrong way as it relates to our toxic air and toxic waters. I surely am an advocate of folks telling the truth about climate change and responding to it.

On Gun Control: We believe in guns but not in assault weapons

Campaign slogans (or cliches) aside, Nebraskans will — generally — cast their vote for U.S. Senator based on the candidates alignment on key issues. Love was forthcoming about his stances on subjects that will likely define the lawmaking body in the coming years. "In Nebraska, we believe in guns, but I do not believe in assault weapons, so I'll be working in that way."

On War & Peace: Dismay at Hamas killings against Israel; it's an act of hate

As a member of the human race and a man of God, I express my dismay and disdain as to the recent mass killing by Hamas against the state of Israel and its people. Specifically, the shock of my generation, at the level to which hate has become. The killing of men, raping of women and children, is a shock.

As a member of the African American race, who has experienced generations of hate and killing, I bring a special sensitivity and awareness of the effects of unbridled hatred. Whether it be African Americans or the Jewish community, it's unacceptable and should be called out and challenged. In 2023, it is a global phenomenon that requires leadership to speak against, not only when it just affects our own constituency, but any constituency.

I acknowledge as a Black leader that the African American and Jewish relationship has always been both supportive and complex. We've had our differences. Hate and violence have never been a component of the Black/Jewish relationship.

On Budget & Economy: Critical that we utilize and leverage federal funds

I will first and foremost be a strong advocate for Nebraska's unique needs in the federal budget appropriations process. It is critical that we utilize and leverage federal funds to support agriculture, infrastructure, and community needs here in Nebraska. I believe we can provide these critical services while also spending responsibly.

On Immigration: Create path to citizenship for those contributing to economy

I support a bipartisan effort to fix our immigration system. We must create a path to citizenship for those who want to contribute to our economy - this is especially important in our agriculture industry and the processing plants that are an important economic driver for Nebraska.

On Education: Ricketts should debate me on our divergent education views

Preston Love challenged current Sen. Pete Ricketts to debate. Love accused Ricketts of "trying to hide." Love, a longtime North Omaha community and civil rights advocate, cast himself as a face of change. If elected, Love said he would be the first Black U.S. senator to represent Nebraska.

"Nebraskans know where Pete Ricketts stands," says his campaign. "Sen. Ricketts will continue to engage directly with voters on the issues that matter most to them--securing the border, restoring the economy, advancing our shared values, and growing Nebraska."

Love said he and Ricketts have divergent views relating to education, whether to ban assault rifles and other issues. "There is a sharp contrast between me and Mr. Pete Ricketts and our views on a woman's right to choose," Love said. "I hope the voters give an indication for him -- ignoring this opportunity to give the voters a clear choice," Love said. The Omaha World-Herald is among the media organizations that invited the candidates to a debate.
