2024 NH Governor's race: on Energy & Oil

Chris Sununu: Transition to renewable energy has to be at the right pace

Sununu's veto of numerous Democrat-backed bills related to renewable energy also came up in the debate. Sherman argued that the state would have lower energy costs if it more aggressively embraced renewable energy, but Sununu flatly rejected that idea. "This idea that renewables, all renewables, lower your energy costs is completely wrong, like beyond wrong. It's all on your bill," Sununu said. "So there has to be a transition, but it has to be at the right pace."

Cinde Warmington: We can find ways to address the transition to clean energy

Energy policy and energy costs are critical issues for Granite State families, for our economy, our environment, our health and our future growth. We have real challenges ahead of us as we determine how to best improve energy efficiency, transition to clean, renewable energy sources, develop infrastructure to support new electric vehicle technology, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and much more. As Granite Staters, we can and we will find ways to address these issues with innovative solutions.

Joyce Craig: Promote renewable energy, transition away from fossil fuels

Craig said she would "support an energy policy that promotes renewable energy and transitions away from fossil fuels." She praised efforts by Democratic lawmakers to expand net metering allowances for municipalities in state statute, a change that allowed Manchester to build the state's largest municipal solar array and cut city emissions by 60 percent.

Cinde Warmington: Government has a role in addressing climate change

Warmington said the state's energy plan is overly reliant on fossil fuels, and that the Public Utilities Commission and Department of Energy are not committed enough to promoting clean energy. "We need a governor, to start with, who believes in climate change and believes that government has a role in addressing it," she said.
