2024 presidential campaign press release: on Abortion

Perry Johnson: I support state restrictions on abortion like Florida passed

President Trump did many great things during his term, including appointing the judges who would eventually overturn Roe v. Wade. The true radicals on this issue are Democrats, who proudly support abortion up to 38 weeks in many blue states. I hope he will reconsider his position. I am proudly pro-life and can promise voters I will never compromise my views. I will fight for life every day as President and support state restrictions like Florida passed.

Ron DeSantis: Ban most abortions after six weeks instead of fifteen

SB300: Heartbeat Protection Act; prohibiting physicians from knowingly performing or inducing a termination of pregnancy after the gestational age of the fetus is determined to be more than 6 weeks, rather than 15 weeks, with exceptions.

ACLU-FL testimony in opposition: If passed, nearly all abortions would be illegal after 6 weeks, before many women even know they are pregnant, or if they are aware, before they are able to satisfy the state-mandated requirement of two appointments with the doctor separated by at least 24 hours.

Governor's press release in favor 4/13: "We are proud to support life and family in the state of Florida. I applaud the Legislature for passing the Heartbeat Protection Act that expands pro-life protections and provides additional resources for young mothers and families."

Legislative Outcome: Passed Senate 26-13-1 on Apr/3/23; passed House 70-40-9 on Apr/13/23; signed by Gov. DeSantis on Apr/13/23.

Kamala Harris: Fight state laws that criminalize healthcare providers

We witnessed, about two years ago, the highest court in our land take a constitutional right that had been recognized, from the women of America. And thereafter, we have witnessed, in state after state, laws being proposed and passed that criminalize healthcare providers.

Many of you know I started my career as a prosecutor, but you may not know why. When I was in high school, I learned that one of my best friends was being molested by her stepfather. [I invited her] to stay with us. So, at a young age, I decided I wanted to take on harms against women and children. And for the majority of my career as a prosecutor, I actually specialized in those kinds of cases.

So, the idea that these so-called leaders would say even no exception for rape or incest; to say to a survivor of a crime of violence to their body, a violation to their body, that you, the survivor of that, don't have a right to make a decision about what happens to your body next, that's immoral.

Kamala Harris: Access to medication abortion: mifepristone thru pharmacies

Statement from Vice President Kamala Harris on Access to Medication Abortion Through Major Retail Pharmacies:

Today, two major retail pharmacy chains announced they are certified to dispense mifepristone, a medication that has been proven safe and effective for over two decades. Many women in America will soon have the choice to pick up their prescription at a local pharmacy. This is an important step to ensure women have access to the health care they need.

The President and I stand with the majority of Americans who believe women should have the freedom to make decisions about their own body and their own lives. We remain committed to defending access to reproductive health care, including medication abortion. Our Administration will not waver in our dedication to preserving access to essential medication and defending the FDA's independent, evidence-based approval and regulation of safe and effective drugs.

Donald Trump: Let individual states decide: Biden/Harris are extremist

Biden is an abortion extremist whose radical views are out of step with the majority of Americans. Biden has gone from saying abortion is "always a tragedy" to "absolutely" supporting taxpayer-funded abortion-on-demand until the moment of birth. More Americans support protecting unborn babies at 15 weeks than oppose restrictions--including majorities of Democrats, independents, and women. Meanwhile, President Trump supports the rights of individual states to make that decision for themselves.
