Larry Elder in 2024 presidential campaign press release
On Budget & Economy:
Cap government spending at 10 percent of GDP
Here's an idea: Cap government spending at 10 percent of GDP--less than half of Biden's proposal--and attach real consequences to surpassing it. My proposal is to enact a hard spending cap that, if surpassed, results in the president and all sitting
members of Congress losing their right to run for re-election in the next cycle.

On Free Trade:
Trump's tariffs on imports punish the American consumer
One of Donald Trump's talking points and biggest applause lines is how "they"--Japan, China and Mexico--are "beating us in trade" and are "taking our jobs." He proposes tariffs, for example, on Chinese goods in retaliation for that country's
alleged "cheating." To someone who is out of work in an industry where foreign workers do what he or she once did, Trump-like protectionism sounds appealing. But Trump actually proposes punishing the American consumer.

On Gun Control:
Goal of activists is a ban on civilian ownership of guns
This is not to say that nothing can be done to make a Las Vegas-style shooting more difficult. But most of these things will be done by private actors. Las Vegas hotel/casino owner Steve Wynn, for example, said his Vegas resorts already had
additional security measures in place. The "common sense" goal of many "gun control activists" is not a ban on this or that feature but a ban on civilian ownership of guns.

On Social Security:
Clock is ticking on unsustainable program
During President Joe Biden's State of the Union speech, he got booed after accusing "some" Republicans of seeking to "sunset" some of the so-called entitlements. Biden said: "Instead of making the wealthy pay their fair share, some Republicans ... want
Medicare and Social Security to sunset... Anybody who doubts it, contact my office. I'll give you a copy. I'll give you a copy of the proposal."But it is equally true that both Democratic Presidents Barack Obama and
Bill Clinton called Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security--without reforms--"unsustainable." Were those Democratic presidents seeking to "sunset" these programs?
Both Republican and Democrat presidents concede that without reforms these programs are "unsustainable," yet members of both parties attack reform as "risky" and "irresponsible." Meanwhile, the clock keeps ticking.

On Tax Reform:
Ten-Point Plan: replace IRS with national sales tax
Elder, who favors much less government and much less regulation, blames both Republicans and Democrats for creating and maintaining a bloated welfare state that stifles individual initiative and free enterprise.
His "Ten-Point Plan" for transforming America calls for abolishing the IRS; passing a national sales tax; reducing government by 80%;
ending welfare and entitlements, including Social Security, Medicare, and farm and tobacco subsidies; legalizing drugs; abolishing the
minimum wage (which, he claims, undermines job creation for blacks, teenagers and entry-level workers); and eliminating corporate taxes.

On War & Peace:
Biden should have done more to prevent Ukraine invasion
More could have and should have been done by President Joe Biden and our European allies to prevent this invasion. Biden's disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan caused China, Iran and North Korea to perceive Biden as weak. During 2021,
America, according to the Energy Information Administration, imported a monthly average of 670,000 barrels per day of crude oil and petroleum products from Russia, smashing the previous record set in 2011.
