2024 presidential campaign press release: on War & Peace

Larry Elder: Biden should have done more to prevent Ukraine invasion

More could have and should have been done by President Joe Biden and our European allies to prevent this invasion. Biden's disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan caused China, Iran and North Korea to perceive Biden as weak. During 2021, America, according to the Energy Information Administration, imported a monthly average of 670,000 barrels per day of crude oil and petroleum products from Russia, smashing the previous record set in 2011.

Corey Stapleton: Wars often start with seemingly harmless nationalism

Corey Stapleton, the first Republican to announce his bid for the 2024 presidential election, has declared that the U.S. and China are economic rivals, not enemies. As a former naval officer and Montana Secretary of State, Stapleton is advocating for a more cooperative approach between the two global powers. He has condemned the spike in nationalist rhetoric and military-style posturing, which could lead to conflict.

The Republican candidate noted that the U.S. has imposed taxes and tariffs on Chinese imports, attempted to ban the app TikTok, and disrupted tech supply chains. These measures, he believes, are provocative and unnecessary. He has urged for respect and restraint, suggesting that wars have often started with seemingly harmless nationalistic policies.

Cornel West: End senseless carnage with diplomatic resolution in Ukraine

I would sit down with China's President Xi to talk about these existential crises of climate and war. I would urge him to use his leverage as Russia's number one trade partner to push Putin to the negotiating table, and I would promise to do the same with Zelensky so we can end this senseless carnage with a diplomatic resolution that addresses neutrality for Ukraine, referendums for the Donbas and Crimea, a demilitarized border, nuclear disarmament and security guarantees for all.

Jill Stein: Charges Israel, US leaders with war crimes

Stein denounced the Israeli military's assault on Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza as a war crime: "Attacking a hospital with bombs and snipers, shooting doctors and patients, cutting off power and blocking supplies keeping patients alive, including premature babies--these are not acts of war, they are acts of genocide."

"We call for an investigation of the [Israeli Prime Minister] Netanyahu regime's war crimes, as well as the role of Biden and US leaders in aiding and abetting them," said Dr. Stein. "And above all, these crimes must stop now." Dr. Stein blasted Democratic and Republican party leaders including Mike Johnson, Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries for standing together at a rally where speakers including Johnson denounced calls for a ceasefire while the crowd approvingly chanted "no ceasefire."

“‘No ceasefire’ is a call for ‘More dead children’,” said Dr. Stein “I stand against the Democratic and Republican allies of war profiteers and AIPAC, demanding #CeasefireInGazaNOW.”

Kamala Harris: Condemn Hamas October 7 killings as anti-Semitic

On Yom HaShoah, or Holocaust Remembrance Day, we honor the memory of six million Jews who were murdered by the Nazis in one of the worst atrocities in human history. The pain, suffering, and evil associated with the Holocaust--driven by Antisemitic ideology--must always be remembered and taught to ensure "never again."

Sadly, eight decades later, Antisemitism--and hate in general--is on the rise in our country and around the world. On October 7, Hamas, a brutal terrorist organization, committed the worst atrocity against the Jewish people since the Holocaust--killing 1,200 innocent people, including 44 Americans, taking 240 people hostage, including eight Americans still in Gaza, and committing horrific acts of sexual violence against Jewish women.

And, in recent days in the United States, we have seen hateful rhetoric and harassment against Jews. This is Antisemitism and must be condemned unequivocally. Hate of any kind has no place in our country.

Kamala Harris: US-Iraq partnership role after Defeat ISIS coalition

Vice President Harris met with Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani of Iraq today. They reaffirmed their mutual interest in a strong and enduring partnership as envisioned in the US-Iraq Strategic Framework Agreement. The Vice President emphasized the commitment of the US to supporting Iraq in achieving a secure and stable future for its people, which is critical to ensuring a prosperous and interconnected Middle East.

The Vice President urged the Iraqi government to prevent attacks against US personnel and expressed appreciation for efforts to date. She stated that the US has no higher priority than the safety of US personnel, and will act, as needed, in self-defense.

The leaders also discussed the importance of continuing the US-Iraq Higher Military Commission, which will enable the transition to an enduring bilateral security partnership between the US and Iraq and is the natural next step to build on the collaboration of the past 10 years between Iraq and the Defeat ISIS coalition.

Kamala Harris: Israeli long-term security needs negotiated 2-state solution

Remarks by National Security Advisor to the Vice President Dr. Phil Gordon at the Herzliya Conference: "President Biden and Vice President Harris firmly believe the best way to ensure Israel's long-term security is through a negotiated two-state solution that will allow Israel to remain a secure, Jewish and democratic state. The onus is not just on Israelis but also on Palestinians, which is why we are engaging the newly appointed Palestinian Authority government to advance important reforms that make meaningful changes to improve governance."

"Ultimately, through the regional track and the Palestinian track, this path I've described opens up prospects for Israel to build enduring security--which is what this country needs and has wanted from its founding. All of this runs through securing a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza now, as President Biden has proposed, and we should all be working to achieve."
