Survey of 2024 Presidential campaign websites: on Immigration

Larry Elder: We must restore the rule of law to our border with Mexico

The constant flow of illegal migration, drugs, and cartel activity across the border poses significant threats to our communities and our people. Washington must take decisive action to strengthen border security, enforce our immigration laws, and address the root causes of this crisis. We must invest in physical barriers (walls work!), bolster the resources available to our border patrol agents, and restore the rule of law to our border with Mexico.

Marianne Williamson: Calling border situation a crisis is a simply a distraction

Although there are certainly reasonable changes that need to be made in our immigration policies, the idea that we have a crisis is simply a canard. Calling our border situation a crisis is simply a means of distracting Americans from seeing who and what is really leeching our resources, who and what is really undercutting our power, and who and what is really stealing our democracy. In fact, over the last decade, undocumented immigration has been going down.

Nikki Haley: Give local police power to check immigrations status

Nikki is the proud daughter of legal immigrants who believes we are a country of laws, and laws must be enforced. In 2011, she signed one of the toughest immigration laws in the country, giving law enforcement more power to check whether people are illegal immigrants. Nikki fought to put South Carolina first against President Obama's radical immigration agenda. The state sued the Obama administration over an executive order giving millions of illegal immigrants temporary legal status.

Perry Johnson: My first priority as President will be building the wall

I admire many of Trump's policies, but the reality is that he never built the wall. My first priority as President will be building the wall. My border policy will have 3 main focuses:
  1. Tight and non-porous border security
  2. Strict policies to cease and desist illegal immigration, with a zero-tolerance policy toward those who immigrated illegally
  3. Create an easier pathway to citizenship for vetted immigrants (based on economic, social, and cultural needs of our nation at a given time)

Tim Scott: Expel illegal immigrants, fully fund the border wall

Cornel West: Treat every migrant and asylum seeker with dignity

Treating every migrant and asylum seeker with dignity and implementing fundamental changes in immigration policies.

Will Hurd: We need strong disincentives to prevent illegal immigration

We have benefitted from the brain drain from every other country in the world. We need to benefit from the hard working drain as well, and we need immigration policy in place that puts strong disincentives from coming here illegally so we have a much more manageable immigration system.

Asa Hutchinson: Biden administration showing weakness along southern border

As a former Undersecretary of Homeland Security during the George W. Bush administration, I see what is happening along our southern border and recognize the severe lapse in leadership from the Biden-Harris administration. This administration is showing weakness every day, which jeopardizes the safety of our ranchers and families along the border and signals to the world that the United States is no longer interested in protecting our nation. We must send a different message--and we will!

Chase Oliver: Radically simplify system so people can come & work

I think most people can agree that our nation's immigration system is a mess. We need a President who will break the partisan logjam and bring people from all parties together to reform and modernize it. There are few better examples of "bad government" than the overly complex current laws and regulations involving immigration. The President needs to take the lead and work with Congress to radically simplify our immigration system so people can come here, work, and become members of our communities without being relegated to the shadows. Immigrants built this country and they can help keep it growing and prospering for future generations of Americans.

Ryan Binkley: Opportunity to obtain legal status if they meet requirements

My plan deploys physical barriers, tactical infrastructure, technology, and personnel along the border where it is most effective. The plan provides Dreamers, including DACA recipients, and certain Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders with an opportunity to adjust to lawful status. It also establishes the Dignity Program, which provides undocumented immigrants with an opportunity to obtain legal status if they meet certain requirements.

Kamala Harris: Will bring back the bipartisan border security bill

After Donald Trump killed the border deal for his political gain, she and President Biden took action on their own--and now border crossings are at the lowest level in 4 years. As President, she will bring back the bipartisan border security bill and sign it into law. At the same time, she knows that our immigration system is broken and needs comprehensive reform that includes strong border security and an earned pathway to citizenship.
