Survey of 2024 Senate campaign websites: on Homeland Security

Alex Mooney: Prioritize the well-being of our service members & veterans

Mooney will always prioritize the health and well-being of our service members, veterans, and their families. Since taking office he has helped the House pass more than 26 veterans-related pieces of legislation aimed at improving Veterans Affairs and other services, increasing economic opportunity, and honoring our veterans. Mooney cosponsored H.R. 577, which will allow veterans living more than 40 miles from the nearest VA facility to obtain quality healthcare at local facilities.

Jim Banks: Committed to investing in our men and women in uniform

Our foreign policy should come from a place of strength, and there must be no question that America will always defend its standing. Jim recognizes that Communist China poses an existential threat to our national security and is committed to investing in our men and women in uniform so that we can maintain our military dominance and protect the American people. Jim will always fight for a national security policy that puts America first.

Katie Porter: Voted against defense budget higher than what was requested

I cannot support a defense bill that authorizes spending $45 billion more than even what our commander-in-chief thinks is necessary to keep us safe. As a champion for oversight, I'm concerned that these taxpayer dollars will be wasted lining the pockets of big defense contractors. Having recently returned from the Middle East, where I spoke directly with troops and commanders, I reject the false claim that tens of billions of extra tax dollars are needed for the sake of national security.

Tim Sheehy: Government must stop overlooking our veteran community

As a veteran and founder of Bridger Aerospace, I have made a commitment to hire hundreds of Montana veterans and put their skill set and experience to work in our mission to fight wildfires and protect our public lands and our communities. The federal government must stop overlooking our veteran community. Montana veterans will have no bigger advocate for them than by electing a fellow veteran to fight for them and fulfill the promise our nation made to them.

Tim Sheehy: We need to fund our military and stand strong against China

The politicians in Washington are more concerned with their political careers than securing America's future. They've empowered our adversaries like China, opened our borders, shut down American energy production, and created economic uncertainty. We need to fund our military and stand strong against China, secure our southern border, and once again, make America energy dominant and independent.

Frank LaRose: Underfunding military is biggest threat to national security

Frank knows first-hand that freedom isn't free, and a strong national defense is essential to protecting democracy--both at home and around the world. For nearly 20 years, Sherrod Brown has worked to undermine and underfund our military, and he's been a staunch supporter of the Biden Administration's foreign policy failures. No one knows better than Frank LaRose that our biggest threat to national security is under-funding our military. Brown has consistently voted to cut funding for troops.

Kelly Ayotte: Ensure every veteran receives the support they need

We are blessed to have tens of thousands of veterans living in New Hampshire. Kelly will always honor and assist our veterans to make sure that New Hampshire becomes the most veteran friendly state in the nation. As Governor, Kelly will ensure that the New Hampshire Department of Military Affairs and Veterans Services receives additional support and facilitate better coordination with veteran's service and non-profit organizations so every veteran receives the support they need.

Steve Garvey: Modernize our military; achieve peace through strength

A strong United States means a safer world. With emerging threats around the globe, it's more important than ever for the United States to renew our commitment to our alliances and our role in global leadership. We must invest in modernizing our military and achieve peace through strength.

It's important that we work close with our allies and be prepared for the threats of tomorrow while actively positioning ourselves to counter the expansion of hostile foreign powers. More than anything, in order for us to be strong abroad, we must be strong at home. We need leaders in Washington who will make level-headed decisions in the face of a rapidly changing and dangerous world.

Mike Katz: Support active military; veterans a national imperative

Recognizing and honoring the service and sacrifices of our active military and veterans is not only a moral obligation but a national imperative. This entails an unwavering commitment to safeguarding their health, ensuring their safety, and promoting their overall well-being. Gratitude must be extended for the freedoms and safety they have selflessly secured for our nation.

Angela Alsobrooks: Supports maintaining the strength of the U.S. military

Angela is a staunch supporter of maintaining the strength of the U.S. military, recognizing its importance in national defense. She is particularly dedicated to supporting Maryland's crucial role in the nation's defense. Maryland is home to 11 military bases, all of which provide essential resources, personnel, and support to all branches of the military. As a Senator, Angela will be a vocal advocate for securing the funding and support necessary to sustain these critical installations.

Angela Alsobrooks: Expand programs aimed at ending veteran homelessness

As a Senator, Angela will advocate for increased funding for VA medical centers, to ensure our veterans have the health and mental care they need. She supports modernizing our medical records system to ensure a seamless transition from active duty services to the VA system. She believes no one who served this country should ever be allowed to go hungry or homeless and will strongly support expanding programs aimed at ending veteran homelessness.

Trent Staggs: Maintain the air superiority making us world's "Top Gun"

    My five priorities are:
  1. build the strongest cyber-security shield ever seen
  2. maintain the air superiority that made us the world's "Top Gun"
  3. ensure the Navy keeps our international trade lanes secure
  4. keep woke ideology from destroying our military's resolve
  5. spend smarter than we have been
  6. America can stay the world's superpower, but not without real change real fast.

Hung Cao: We need a strong military to keep pace with foreign threats

The four levers of national power are Diplomacy, Information, Military and Economy (DIME). . The Biden administration has been feckless in all aspects of DIME and now we need a strong military to keep pace with countries that could threaten our national security. That means developing new technologies in order to remain competitive.

Caroline Gleich: Advocate policies that support veterans' rights & healthcare

Honoring the sacrifice and service of veterans, Caroline is committed to advocating for policies that support veterans' rights, healthcare, and overall well-being. She aims to address the unique challenges veterans face, ensuring they receive the care and benefits they deserve for their service to the nation.

Glenn Elliott: Beyond healthcare, our veterans deserve robust support

I will fight for improved access to healthcare for all veterans, ensuring that our V.A. facilities not only meet but exceed the needs of our heroes. Beyond healthcare, our veterans deserve robust support as they reintegrate into civilian life, including job training programs, educational opportunities, and community support systems that recognize and respect their unique contributions to our country and our commonwealth. We owe them a debt of gratitude.

Mark Lamb: Supporting our military means supporting military families

American Veterans represent the very best of our nation. We will never be able to fully repay the debt owed to these brave men and women. Properly supporting our military means supporting military families. I will be a voracious advocate for veterans and their families. I will always stand up and support America's warriors after their service. This requires providing resources veterans need to successfully transition back to civilian life with high-quality jobs, education, and medical care.

Dan Osborn: We must pay servicemen and women a competitive wage

As of October 10, 2023, more than 300,000 VA claims have been backlogged for more than 125 days. Our politicians claim to support veterans; clearly, it's little more than lip service. I'll fully fund the VA to clear out this backlog and ensure claims are processed in a timely manner. I will also support comprehensive job placement and job training for veterans. Those who serve our country should not be left behind when they return home.

Sometimes it seems the military overpays for everything--except soldiers. From forty dollar hammers that cost ten bucks at the hardware store, to $10,000 switches that cost a couple hundred dollars to manufacture, price gouging is draining our military of the resources to defend this country. Meanwhile, military families struggle to put food on the table. We must pay servicemen and women a competitive wage. Military families are on food stamps, and we wonder why there's a recruitment crisis.

Bob McDermott: Stop wokeism in military and stop CCP land buys

We'll end the Ukraine war, support Israel, stop wokeism in the military, decouple from China, protect our supply chains, ban CCP land buys near bases, boost VA care, and push for a bio-lab moratorium. Our commitment to you.

John Deaton: Expand Veterans Choice Program to outside the VA

Having served in the U.S. Marine Corps, I understand the personal sacrifice that our men and women in uniform--and their families--make to keep our nation safe. When elected, supporting Veterans will be my top priority.

I support choice for Veterans. I believe we should expand the Veterans Choice Program to allow Veterans to seek treatment outside of the VA system to meet their medical needs and reduce the strain on the VA.

We must expand mental health services for Veterans returning home from foreign wars and conflicts. Thousands of troops have returned home from Afghanistan and Iraq with PTSD that has gone untreated. This is wrong, and as your next Senator, I will fight to be on the Veterans Affairs Committee and fight to ensure that every service member who needs care receives it.

Laphonza Butler: Jobs & healthcare for 1.6 million veterans

Senator Butler believes that the nation owes its gratitude to our servicemembers, our veterans, and their families. She is dedicated to improving access to health care, mental health services, and good-paying jobs for the more than 160,000 active duty personnel and 1.6 million veterans and their families in California. She is committed to ensuring that veterans' facilities, including the West Los Angeles Veterans Medical Center and other facilities in rural areas, have what they need to effectively serve our veteran community. Senator Butler is also fighting to ensure that the Department of Veterans Affairs has the resources to deliver on its promises to veterans and their families.
