On Homeland Security: Voted against defense budget higher than what was requested

I cannot support a defense bill that authorizes spending $45 billion more than even what our commander-in-chief thinks is necessary to keep us safe. As a champion for oversight, I'm concerned that these taxpayer dollars will be wasted lining the pockets of big defense contractors. Having recently returned from the Middle East, where I spoke directly with troops and commanders, I reject the false claim that tens of billions of extra tax dollars are needed for the sake of national security. On Social Security: Increase benefits, improve adjustments for inflation

Congresswoman Porter believes that Orange County seniors should be able to age with dignity in our communities. She is a cosponsor of the Social Security 2100 Act, which would increase Social Security benefits, improve adjustments for inflation, and make more Americans eligible for critical support. She also introduced the bipartisan Homecare for Seniors Act, which would allow older Americans with health savings accounts to use these funds for homecare expenses.
