2024 Governor's State of the State speeches: on Immigration

Brad Little: Send more Idaho troopers to our lawless southern border

We will work even harder to address the open border and its impacts because of the failure of the Biden-Harris administration to admit it's even a problem. The cartel and other bad actors are taking advantage of our open border to manipulate and abuse the most vulnerable, including children. To help curb human trafficking, my IDAHO WORKS plan calls for sending two more teams of Idaho State Police troopers to train and act as a force multiplier at our lawless southern border.

Katie Hobbs: Seeking funding to better coordinate our border response

Day in and day out, I hear from leaders on the border who need support because they are stepping up where the federal government can't, or won't. This year, they asked for boots on the ground, improved communications systems, resources to combat human trafficking, and the latest technologies to keep communities on both sides of the border safe. And I delivered. By refusing to waste money on cheap political stunts, we awarded over $84 million to help border communities manage the massive influx in migrants.

But we must do more. That's why I launched Operation SECURE, creating a Border Coordination Office within the Arizona Department of Homeland Security. This session, I'm seeking ongoing funding to better coordinate our border response and continue fighting this humanitarian, economic, and enforcement crisis. This new funding will expand the Operation with critical investments in border security, as well as resources to intercept the flow of fentanyl.

Ron DeSantis: Every state now a border state--Florida is fighting back!

Since President Biden won't stop the flow of illegal immigrants and dangerous drugs across the border, Florida has been forced to pick up the slack. We've now sent over 100 Florida State Troopers and dozens of FWC officers to help Texas with border operations, banned sanctuary cities, and instituted policies to deter illegal immigration into our state. The Biden Border Crisis has made every state a border state--and Florida is fighting back!

Kevin Stitt: Without a secure border, every state is a border state

We have to keep bad actors, like the drug cartels, out of our state. That starts with securing our country's southern border. I have been vocal about my support of Texas and Governor Abbott as they fight to secure our southern border and put pressure on the Biden administration to enforce our laws. I will continue to offer the assistance of the Oklahoma National Guard because we know that when we don't have a secure border, every state is a border state.

Chris Sununu: Border crossings not a Texas problem but a national crisis

Last year we had almost 200 NH National Guard soldiers successfully assist at the southern border in McAllen, Texas. Tomorrow I will go to the legislature to request funds for additional National Guard to join other states across the country at Eagle Pass, TX where some of the highest incidents of illegal crossings have occurred. This is not a Texas problem. It is a National crisis and NH has the chance to provide specialized support, follow the laws of the land, and keep our citizens safe.

J.B. Pritzker: Won't shut the immigration door once open to our ancestors

I've spoken many times about my own family's refugee history. I will not join the chorus of people in this country or in this chamber who eagerly look to slam shut an immigration door that was once open to our ancestors. Listen, maybe some of you think we should just say, "this is not our problem," and that we should let the migrant families starve or freeze to death. But that's not what decent Midwesterners do. That's not what leaders do.

Mark Gordon: Illegal immigration is our nation's greatest threat

Illegal immigration is our nation's greatest threat. Last week, I spoke to my friend Greg Abbott, Governor of Texas, and told him Wyoming is fully behind him. As the federal government has lost control, or should I say given up control of our southern border, we have seen here in Wyoming drastic increases in drug and fentanyl traffic, as well as overdose deaths. Without effective border control, our security and safety, even here in Wyoming, is compromised. The fact is, we are now all border states.
