2024 VA Senate race: on Civil Rights

Hung Cao: Racism is racism, no matter what else you call it

The hyper-focus on race and gender is destroying years of work that ensured equal opportunity for all Americans regardless of race, sex, and religion. Diversity of thought and experience, not racial quotas, are the foundations for success and should be the priority for every business that seeks to push innovation and develop new technologies. Racism is racism, no matter what else you call it. Prioritizing one race over another is racism, and everybody knows it.

Hung Cao: Supports policies restricting rights of the LGBTQ+ community

Cao opposes equal rights for transgender people and supports policies that restrict the rights of the LGBTQ+ community. In an April 2022 campaign forum, he opposed the participation of transgender athletes on sports teams that correspond with their gender identity. He also believes transgender people should not be allowed to use the bathroom that matches their identity. At the same event, he said that the military shouldn't pay for gender-affirming care.
