Semi Bird in 2024 WA Governor's race

On Civil Rights: Left abandoned him, a black man, over policy disagreements

He noted that many policies held by the far left are actually regressive and bring people of color down a dangerous road back towards slavery. He offered his term on the school board as an example of this: "As soon as they heard that I, a black man, was against CRT, the smear campaign started." He said that people who identify as progressive left supported his run as a person of color until they found out he disagreed with their policies; then they quickly abandoned him.

On Energy & Oil: Won't be giving up our gas engines by 2035, an insane idea

When I am Governor of Washington, we will not be giving up our gas engines by 2035 like other states are proposing. That is an insane idea that will only leave people in poverty.

On Foreign Policy: Government has money for Ukraine, not doing good for America

The government has plenty of money to bail out banks, ship off to Ukraine and put illegal aliens in hotels... but when it comes time to doing good for the American people we're always too broke. Isn't it a shame?

On Government Reform: If elected, imposing term limits would top his agenda

The state is currently represented by Democratic Gov. Jay Inslee, who could run for a fourth term in 2024. If elected governor, Mr. Bird said that imposing term limits would top his agenda.

On Gun Control: Will overturn assault weapons ban, there's no such thing

As Governor, I will overturn Jay Inslee's assault weapons ban. There is no such thing as an assault weapon, it's simply a term meant to scare people. I won't allow our Second Amendment to be infringed upon in this way.

On Health Care: No child will undergo a "gender affirmation" surgery

When I'm Governor of Washington, no child will be able to undergo a "gender affirmation" surgery. You can't get a tattoo without parental consent before you're 18, but apparently you are mature enough to make lifelong changes to your body. In some states, they're doing these surgeries on TODDLERS now. When I'm Governor, that ends immediately.

On Homeland Security: Told conflicting stories about court-martial as a Marine

Bird's comment on Facebook describing his court-martial as a young Marine in 1984 differs widely from the comment he provided to the Observer while running for the Richland School Board. Bird's post reveals that he, not a cousin, was the subject of the military legal proceeding.

Bird wrote, "This was a racially charged event where a Sergeant (NCO) used a racial slur and assaulted me. I defended myself. It was NOT my commanding officer."

"I did my punishment, went back to my unit, was later promoted, and finished my tour of duty with an HONORABLE DISCHARGE."

On Principles & Values: Calls himself a "constitutional Christian conservative"

[On political identity]: "I truly believe that where I'm at right now, knowing what's out there right now, I'm absolutely the right person to answer the call to serve again," he said. Bird is running as a Republican and describes himself as a "constitutional Christian conservative." He said this means he believes in a government of the people by the people--all people--and in grace and unity under God, as well as fiscal responsibility and meritocracy.

On Principles & Values: His life a testament to greatness of God and America

[On press coverage of his candidacy]: "I'm more than just my skin color," Bird said. "Republicans don't talk about race. We don't care [about skin color]. That article said that I would be the first black governor in US History. Well, great. But I want to be a governor that serves the people, doesn't matter that I'm black." Bird said that his life "is a living testament to the greatness of God and the greatness of America."

On Crime: Mandatory maximum sentence for fentanyl distribution

We will utilize our Joint Inter-Agency Drug Task Force to target and interdict narco-traffickers at all levels to stem the flow of Fentanyl and other narcotics. I will present legislation which makes possession with intent to distribute Fentanyl a class A felony with a mandatory maximum sentence.

On Drugs: I will make Schedule 1 drugs a felony again

Under Article 3 of the Washington State Constitution, I will initiate action to reconstitute the original police pursuit law (reasonable suspicion), and make Schedule 1 drugs a felony again.

On Tax Reform: Provide tax relief; reduce spending; restructure welfare

On Welfare & Poverty: Cause of homelessness is mental illness, not affordability

It is important to understand that the root cause of homelessness in Washington State is not a matter of affordable housing, but rather an epidemic of mental illness. The current administration has spent over 800 million taxpayer dollars to address this issue, only to see a 10% increase in homelessness over the past year.

On Budget & Economy: Be a steward of taxpayer dollars

The governor must be a steward of taxpayer dollars with an obligation of fiscal accountability and budget transparency. The governor must strike a balance between manager and leader of the largest organization in the state. Overseeing operations and

On Homeland Security: Served in Marine Corps and Army National Guard

On Abortion: I value all life, from conception through natural death

Q: RIGHT TO LIFE: Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

A: I value all life, from conception, through natural death. Let's provide women with support services, such as, prenatal care and make adoption a feasible option. Let's be proactive and bring awareness programs into at risk communities to reduce unwanted pregnancy.

Q: Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards?

A: Strongly Agree. If there is a law to make this drug available, it must be safe and regulated.

Q: Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

A: Neutral. This question should be worded differently. I support women's health, family planning, and preventive care, but I do not support making taxpayers fund abortion providers against their will. I support making this an initiative where the citizens of Washington choose.

On Civil Rights: Stop perpetrating the scare of a national racist threat

Q: EQUALITY: Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

A: Globalism, Elitism, Marxism. So many progressive isms' have infected our nation like a plague. America was meant to be a diverse nation, a melting pot. There will always be the ignorance of racism, but there are special interests groups who are benefitting from perpetrating the scare of a national racist threat.

Q: I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

A: Strongly Disagree. This theory is a Marxist attack on our society and threatens the soul of America. It is a new form of racism.

Q: Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

On Foreign Policy: Prevent CCP from owning land in Washington State

Q: NATIONAL SECURITY: The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

On Principles & Values: OpEd: Got 9% in primary; MAGA bubble bursting in blue state

Voters in the Washington primary Tuesday were generally thumping local Republican candidates, especially the Trumpiest ones. In the marquee campaign with no incumbent, the open race for governor, Democrat Bob Ferguson was easily outpolling his main GOP rival Dave Reichert. The MAGA favorite, Semi Bird, who was loudly endorsed by the state GOP convention, was pulling just 9% of the vote Tuesday.

That's what it looks like when the MAGA bubble gets exposed to the general voting electorate, in a blue-leaning state. It pops. Primaries don't always forecast exactly what's coming in November. But they can give the gist. Local voters in this one again appear to be repeating what they said loudly in the last three, in 2018, 2020 and 2022. Which is: Go away, Trump.
