2024 WV Senate race: on Energy & Oil

Alex Mooney: Promises to be a strong advocate for the coal industry

Mooney promises to be a fresh and strong advocate for the coal industry on the House Natural Resources Committee. "It was very important. Natural Resources was my first choice," said Mooney during a recent interview. "There's coal in my district; there's coal in everybody's district" in West Virginia. He eventually got the West Virginia Coal Association's endorsement.

Don Blankenship: Climate change policy hits vital energy & steel industries

In the US, Climate Change is an issue placed front and center of the news alongside the drama of two constantly warring political parties. The current government approach to climate change has led to government attacks on many of America's most vital industries. Our all-important energy, steel, & chemical sectors are among the worst hit.

With our energy industry under attack, the looming threat to American energy independence is undeniable. Energy is a vital industry for maintaining our economic and military security. Yet our government literally "declared a war on coal" while abetting a 450 percent increase in China coal use over the past 4 decades. China now uses more coal than the rest of the world combined.

Again this irrational behavior is justified on the back of widely held but incorrect beliefs. In truth, government lies, alarmism, and the resulting over-regulation in the U.S. and other Western nations is a greater threat to the world's climate that climate change will ever be.

Glenn Elliott: Advocated for green energy, silent on EPA coal rules

Actions by President Joe Biden's administration that could hasten closures of heavily polluting coal power plants and the mines that supply them are reviving Republican rhetoric about a so-called "war on coal."

Republican Gov. Jim Justice is running for the seat, and the EPA rules could help push voters into his corner as he faces Democrat Glenn Elliott, the mayor of Wheeling, West Virginia. Elliott has advocated for more green energy in West Virginia but hasn't commented on the EPA rules.
