Scott Morrow in 2024 WY Senate race

On Abortion: Denying a woman's right to prevent pregnancy is outrageous

The Wyoming Democratic Party is calling out Wyoming's two U.S. senators for helping block a bill that would have guaranteed a right to contraceptives, but also would have cancelled out a section of law affirming religious freedom. The Right to Contraception Act required 60 votes last week to advance in the U.S. Senate but failed by a tally of 51-39.

"It is unconscionable that Senator Barrasso voted against codifying a woman's right to birth control," reads Morrow's statement, which also condemns Barrasso's support of the U.S. Supreme Court's 2022 ruling to overturn Roe vs. Wade, a case that had enacted a federal right to abortion. "Denying a woman's right to prevent pregnancy is outrageous, especially in the U.S. where the maternal mortality rate far exceeds that of other high-income nations," says Morrow's statement.

On Gun Control: We could put some reasonable safety measures on guns

Addressing poverty would be Morrow's top priority as a member of Congress. "Kids going to bed hungry. That's the most pressing issue to me," Morrow said. Another priority for Morrow would be firearm suicides. "I think that at the federal level we could put some reasonable safety measures on guns," Morrow said.

On Principles & Values: Earned a Cho Dan Black Belt in World Taekwondo

Scott is a proud father of five. As a single parent, he instilled the values of discipline and hard work in his children by engaging them through his passion for martial arts. He earned a Cho Dan Black Belt in World Taekwondo and studied Karate, Judo, Jujitsu, Thai kickboxing, and Greco-Roman wrestling. At 58, he won first place in forms and second in sparring at the 2011 Wyoming State Karate Championships.

On Social Security: Wyoming Republicans hate Social Security & hate Medicare

Morrow is retired from the United States Postal Service, where he spent a career organizing and leading the American Postal Workers Union chapters in Colorado and California. He worked his way up from union steward to director of industrial relations, and is currently president of the retiree chapter chartered by the APWU, which Morrow said is the largest retiree chapter in the region.

"Basically what I do is dial Congress, write Congress, and try to [persuade] these elected officials," Morrow said, to support his constituents. But that's left him disappointed in Wyoming's delegation. "They hate Social Security. They hate Medicare. They hate the Civil Service Retirement System. They hate the Federal Employees Retirement System," Morrow said.

On Abortion: Big Brother should not get between women and doctors

We must assure at the federal level that every American has the protections enumerated in article one, section 38 of the Wyoming Constitution.

Big Brother should not be allowed to get between women and their doctors. Codify Roe v Wade.

On Civil Rights: The equality state: first to grant women the vote

We in Wyoming live in the equality state, called that because the state was the first to grant women the vote. The current incumbent Senator votes 100% of the time against women's equality. He votes 100% of the time against equality for everyone in Wyoming. I will be the strongest and most vocal advocate for women's equality, and other groups also, WY has ever elected. This starts with passage of the Equal Rights Amendment in the Senate, currently stalled by the republican caucus there. We must assure at the federal level that every American has the protections enumerated in article one, section 38 of the Wyoming Constitution.

On Families & Children: Single parent of five minor dependent children

Q: Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

A: I was a single parent of five minor dependent children after their mother left the 13 year marriage. All my children were academically successful and participated in multiple sporting activities including but not limited to martial arts. I achieved a Cho Don belt level in World Taekwondo, studied karate, kempo karate, boxing, jujitsu and judo. I was a championship wrestler in junior high and high school in Colorado while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. This afforded me a Senatorial nomination to the Naval Academy. I instead attended a college in Lancaster, CA where I won a conference championship in wrestling.

On Government Reform: I am term limiting myself to just one six year term

Q: What are your thoughts on term limits?

A: The voters of each Senator shall establish any term limits. In my particular situation, after coming out of retirement after 20 years thereof, I am term limiting myself to just one six year term. I am only running because of the historical importance of this election and the need for 60 democratic Senators to get essentials for the American People and the citizens of Wyoming passed even if filibustered. For example, in the 117th Congress, the republican filibusters killed several key pieces of legislation that would have directly benefited workers and their families. It has not been any better in the 118th Congress.

On Jobs: President of the largest American Postal Workers Union

Q: Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

A: I am a retired Postal Employee currently serving as the President of the largest American Postal Workers Union (APWU) chartered retiree chapter in this area. I previously served as President and Director of Industrial Relations of the ninth largest local Union of the APWU. I was an advocate for the least among us my entire 26 year USPS career. I continue on a pro bono basis my stewardship for the least among us who have been forsaken, cast aside and forgotten.

As part of my constitutional duties as president of the retiree chapter, I am required to advance the political agenda of seniors and the APWU. This includes regular weekly contact with my congressional delegation despite the fact they all vote 100% of the time against retirees and unions. When the Wyoming Dems asked me to run I was more than happy to come out of retirement none of our needs are considered.

On Welfare & Poverty: Supports SNAP and ARPA's child tax credit

Many Children in Wyoming and all over the USA still go to bed hungry and do not get breakfast before school. The incumbent votes 100% of the time against SNAP and other programs to ensure kids receive appropriate nutrition to maintain maximum health and wellness. In 2021, the American Rescue Plan Act included a provision called the child tax credit wherein needy families in Wyoming and elsewhere received monthly checks in lieu of the Earned Income Credit upon filing their tax return. With about 65 million American children, or 64,000 kids in Wyoming, briefly lifted out of poverty until the program sunsetted and the republican caucus filibustered renewal thereof, the incumbent Senator voted against the American Rescue Plan. I support it.

On Crime: Equal justice for police and government officials

Q: Do you support protecting government officials, including law enforcement officers, from personal liability in civil lawsuits concerning alleged misconduct?

A: No. When did equal justice under the law and accountability for ones actions become a bad thing? The rest of us must conduct our affairs lawfully or go to court and/or jail.

On Crime: Convicted criminals have no business holding elected office

Q: What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

A: Honesty, character, integrity, empathy, compassion, the ability to access the facts and a deep desire to work with everyone to accomplish good things for Americans. Lying, bribing, defrauding, defaming, raping and committing sedition has no place in our political realm.

Convicted criminals who have not yet paid their debt to society for their felonies have no business running for or holding elected office. Neither do those who endorse such scandalous and deplorable candidates for elected office. Not a single elected official is above the law no matter what SCOTUS opines.

On Drugs: Decriminalize and automatically expunge criminal records

Position on Marijuana Legalization: "Many states have already legalized, decriminalized and taxed the sale of MJ with safety regulations. Unfortunately the businesses doing so, can not get bank accounts. These distributors should be able to get business bank or credit union accounts. Safety regulations like those for alcohol are appropriate and recommended.

"The federal laws should all be consistent with the multiple states who have decriminalized or re-legalized MJ. Appropriate regulations to ensure clean usable MJ should be enacted by HHS.

"Not only should automatic expungement of any criminal record for MJ possession be introduced, passed and signed by POTUS, but anyone incarcerated should be immediately pardoned for such." (Candidate Survey Response)

On Education: We forgive business debt but not student loan debt?

Q: Do you support the forgiveness of federal student loan debt?

A: Yes. It literally boggles my mind that those who are against forgiving student loan debt ever after the debtors pay all the principle and have more accumulated interest fees than that original principle, demanded relief for their debt via the PPP program. The $793 Billion in forgivable government loans issued through the 2020 Paycheck Protection Program by the US Small Business Administration (SBA) are a matter of public record. So we can forgive business debt but not student loan debt? What is wrong with that picture?

On Energy & Oil: Stop spending billions to support filthy, killer energy

Q: Do you support the federal government allowing permits for drilling on public lands?

A: No. We already budget at the federal level hundreds of billions of dollars to support filthy, killer energy. In 2022, there were a total of 2,852 oil and gas drilling permits approved on federal lands The current administration has expanded those numbers especially in the gulf of Mexico. Remember, these lands are yours, not big oils.

On Environment: Humongous monopolies are the biggest polluters

Q: Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?

A: Bernie Sanders book, "It's OK to Be Angry About Capitalism". Mostly because many of us are unaware of the system produces today humongous monopolies who are the biggest polluters, have bought and paid for the rules of the capitalistic economy and have now captured much of government at every level since the advent of citizens united v FEC.

On Health Care: Supports single-payer, plus regulated Rx drug costs

Q: Do you support a government-run (e.g. single-payer) healthcare program, such as Medicare-for-All?

A: Yes.

Q: Do you support expanding paid family AND/OR medical leave benefits (e.g. maternity leave)?

A: Yes.

Q: Should the government be able to regulate the cost of prescription drugs?

A: Yes. Let's include child care in the mix. Medicare and VA, both kind of government run programs, use around 2-3 % for administrative expense compared to up to 30% used by the convicted felon health insurance folks. Medicare is mostly privatized at this point with the mostly scam Medicare Advantage programs run by private parties. VA is becoming more privatized each day, so to call them government run programs is simply not accurate.

On Homeland Security: DOD is most corrupt and wasteful agency in history

Q: Do you support increasing defense spending?

A: No. We give nearly a trillion dollars each and every year ($886.3 billion THIS YEAR) via the constitutionally required NDAA or National Defense Authorization Act. This is required pursuant to Article I, Section 8, Clause 12 OF THE USA CONSTITUTION, clearly enumerating, "The Congress shall have Power To raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two Years". After hundreds of years of legislation to support armies, et al, the DOD has become the most corrupt and wasteful agency in the history of the world. It could not even be audited!

On Immigration: Supported bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform

Q: Do you support increasing security along the southern US border?

A: Yes.

Q: Do you support requiring immigrants to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?

A: No. The parties, under the direction of a very conservative Senator named James Lankford, wrote a fantastic first step immigration policy that would have exponentially increases border guards and asylum judges. The convicted felon [Trump] was successful in killing this bipartisan legislation. It is morally bankrupt to send Dreamers back to their country of origin when they have lived here their entire lives and many times do not even speak the language of the country their parents brought them from. To tear non citizen spouses away from their American citizen families is cruel and yet another example of the out of control moral bankruptcy of certain parties in the USA.

On Tax Reform: The rich and powerful pay the least amount of tax ever

The rich and powerful pay the least amount of tax ever since it was adopted via the 16th amendment to the US Constitution in 1909. This historical reduction in their taxes has added trillions of dollars to the debt. The top marginal rate today is the lowest in history at 37%.

Please be admonished that Social Security and Medicare are funded by workers earned income out of every pay check they receive and are not part of the debt or the budget of the USA. All earned income ceases paying into social security when they reach the current cap of $168,600 meaning our congressional delegation pays zero into social security from the last $5400 of earned income and unearned income has no social security flat tax whatsoever. ONLY workers are funding social security and Medicare. Monopolies contribute zero dollars to these essential programs. Corporate profits fund zero dollars for these programs. I intend to support and introduce legislation to tap these free loaders for contributions to these programs.

On War & Peace: Increase offensive military aid to Ukraine

Q: Do you support economic intervention as a means of resolving international conflicts?

A: Yes.

Q: Do you support the US providing increased offensive military aid to Ukraine?

A: Yes.
