Stuart Starky in AZ Senate Debate

On Drugs: Decriminalize, if not legalize, marijuana

It is time to at least decriminalize, if not legalize, marijuana.

On Education: No Child Left Behind shifts tax dollars into private schools

The most important thing we need is teachers who care and who say, 'Yes, you can.' It has nothing to do with No Child Left Behind. No Child Left Behind does not help teachers teach in the classroom, and it doesn't help students learn. No Child Left Behind labels schools as failures so that more and more of our tax dollars can be shifted into private schools and charter schools and into tax credits.

On Immigration: Immigrants were welcomed, not given a guest-worker program

Immigrants were told, "Welcome." They weren't given a guest-worker program. They weren't told they were going to be given this kind of job or that kind of job. They were told, "Welcome to the greatness of America." That needs to be the immigration policy of America again.

On War & Peace: Work on policy to bring our children home

The most important thing we can do before we send a soldier to war is tell them that they are going for the right reason and they are told the truth. I disagree with the reason why our soldiers are dying every day in Iraq. I want you to know the first thing I will do as a US senator is to stand on the floor of the Senate and work on policy to bring our children home.
