Josh Stein in Attorney Generals' offices press releases

On Crime: Protecting the people of this state has to be job one

Stein proposed a comprehensive package to make North Carolina communities safer. The package includes measures to combat drugs, support law enforcement officers, protect kids, test sexual assault kits, improve public safety, and fight fraud. "Protecting the people of this state has to be job one," said Stein. "I'm fighting to keep people safe from violent crime, drugs, and fraud, and I'll always do everything in my power to hold criminals accountable."

On Environment: Applaud the EPA for protecting people, environment

[On "forever chemicals" in drinking water]: "Protecting the people of North Carolina is my number one priority, and that includes the air we breathe and the water we drink," said Stein. "I applaud the EPA for giving us more tools to hold companies responsible when they put North Carolinians' health at risk. I'm grateful to the continued commitment to protecting people and the environment. My team and I will continue our work to hold accountable the companies responsible for PFAS pollution."

On Health Care: Strengthen anti-discrimination protections under Obamacare

Stein supported the HHS proposed rule to strengthen anti-discrimination protections under the Affordable Care Act. "Discrimination in health care puts people's health and lives at risk," said Stein. "Preventing discrimination in health care not only helps all people become healthier, it saves the taxpayer from having to pick up the tab of their care through our public health systems. I'm pleased that the federal government is taking steps to protect North Carolinians' care."

On Immigration: Let DREAMers stay without fear of deportation

Stein filed a friend-of-the-court brief pushing back against the ongoing, misguided effort led by Texas to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. North Carolina is home to approximately 24,000 DACA grantees. "Dreamers should be able to study, work, and contribute to our communities without fear of deportation--a right that the U.S. Supreme Court has reaffirmed," said Stein. "I'll continue to fight to protect Dreamers and their right to stay in the United States."
