Maura Healey in Attorney Generals' offices press releases

On Budget & Economy: Stimulus checks cannot be seized by debt collectors

[On COVID relief checks]: "These stimulus payments must go directly to help struggling people and families pay for housing, food, utilities and other basic needs, and not into the hands of debt collectors," AG Healey said. "We are issuing this guidance to put the debt collection industry on notice and to make sure consumers are aware of their rights under the law."

On Government Reform: Voting rights is the most important issue of our time

[On other states restricting voting rights] "Our democracy is at risk as more and more Republican-led legislatures push forward with dangerous legislation aimed at restricting voting access for communities of color," AG Healey said. "These discriminatory policies are ripped from the same playbook as Jim Crow. Voting rights is the most important issue of our time, and it's on us, as elected officials, to stand up and do what's needed to ensure the right to vote. Congress must act now."
