State of Arizona secondary Archives: on Immigration

Debbie Lesko: The border needs to be secure like Trump says

We must secure our border, period. Some sections need a physical barrier like the wall, and other parts require technology and more manpower. I am committed to working with President Trump to making this a reality.

Frank Riggs: No "parole in place" amnesty

I will assert Arizona's constitutional prerogatives and primary responsibilities for K-12 public education and healthcare for the poor. I'm strongly opposed to the "Obamanization" of Arizona and initiatives like ObamaCare, Common Core, "parole in place" amnesty, and job-killing EPA regulatory mandates on our resource-based industries.

Jim Pederson: Give illegals incentive to come out of the shadows

The first step toward getting comprehensive immigration reform is to take out the gimmicks and stop the political games. Everyone ought to be able to agree that we need to do a better job securing our border. Next, we have to get real about the millions of undocumented workers residing in the US. Any border security plan must include the relief valve of an effective guest-worker plan. Finally, let's give the millions of undocumented people already here an incentive to come out of the shadows. By doing this, law enforcement would know exactly who is in our country. At the same time, blanket amnesty would be wrong. Along with the opportunity to gain legal status comes the responsibility to pay penalties for coming here illegally.

Some in Washington are more concerned about playing election-year politics than actually getting things done. That is the motivation behind an unrealistic plan circulating in Congress that would require illegal immigrants to voluntarily turn themselves to be deported.

Kari Lake: I am committed to finishing the wall

As Governor, I will direct the Arizona National Guard to deploy along the border and assist Border Patrol. What we have now is a security and humanitarian crisis. International criminal cartels are fully in control of Northern Mexico and have turned the flood of people wanting to get into the United States into just another lucrative revenue source to be exploited. That's why I am committed to finishing the wall. I will not let this suffering continue.

Phil Gordon: Reform needed, but based on looks is unconstitutional

The opponents of S.B. 1070 will continue to work with Washington to permanently secure the Arizona border, where last year 500,000 illegal immigrants were apprehended. Our aim is nothing short of comprehensive immigration reform, a new policy that cracks down on predators and criminals who have entered the United States illegally even as it establishes a path to legal residency for law-abiding immigrant neighbors who want nothing more than the chance to earn a paycheck and live a productive life.

Steve Gaynor: If Feds won't do it, state should finish the border wall

If the federal government can't ensure the security of our southern border, then Arizona must make every effort to finish the border wall and protect our citizens and their communities. We have the means to increase funding, resources and provide better coordination for Arizona law enforcement as they fight the increase in crime due to cartel activity.
