Jay Dardenne: Campaign theme: fight poverty & fix the state budget

In interviews, Dardenne is quick to return to his campaign themes of fighting poverty, fixing the state budget and shoring up higher education. The message harkens to Dardenne's agenda when he became a state senator representing Baton Rouge from 1991 until 2006.

"It's why I ran to begin with--it's why I got in politics to begin with--to prove the term honest politician didn't have to be a contradiction in terms," he said.
