Chris Rey: As mayor, revitalized downtown & turned around economy

Chris knows what it takes to turn around an economy, because he had done it for his home town: Since his election as Spring Lake's youngest ever mayor, the town has been noted for dramatic change for the better. Key to this has been a revitalization effort of its main street spearheaded by Chris, redevelopment along the blighted Bragg Blvd, and redevelopment of Mendoza Park the communities "flagship" park. Upon his election Chris was noted for his collaborative approach with the Chamber of Commerce and business leaders and aggressive hands on approach to redevelopment.

Chris expanded town services to include a new business incubator, and workforce development programs. His efforts have already seen results with new businesses attracted to the town, a multi-million dollar mixed use development along the town's main corridor, and the replacement of one of the town's most blighted mobile home neighborhoods with new Green-certified low-income housing.

Erica Smith: Targeted investments to revitalize rural economies

The last three decades have placed the rural regions of our country in economic distress. I support targeted and strategic investments in water and sewer infrastructure, broadband, agriculture innovation, biofuels, clean energy options of wind, solar, and our highway system in order to revitalize rural economies. In closing the rural-urban divide through these re-investments--we will be able to create jobs while stabilizing underserved communities and strengthen our economy.

Erica Smith: Tax cuts, fiscal policy should prioritize job creation

Our economic policies, tax and spend planning and regulations should be constructed in a manner that provides businesses with certainty and incentives, and consumers with confidence and more income. Tax cuts, government spending and fiscal policy should build the middle class and benefit more than the wealthy. I favor conservative fiscal principles and believe that retooling our formulas for business incentives should prioritize job creation.

Mark Walker: Reduce government regulations that smother American business

Mark will work to get government out of the way of our economy. One of his top priorities will be to reduce government regulations that are smothering American businesses. He will also work to promote a streamlined tax code which will reduce the burden on families and corporations, which will encourage economic growth.

In addition, he will work to put an end to wasteful spending and get the national debt back under control. Our ballooning debt is hazardous to our economy and to our national security, and the spending spree must come to an end. Mark will support a constitutional amendment requiring our national budget to be balanced.

Sean Haugh: Scrap the Federal Reserve

Haugh and D'Annunzio are the first Libertarian candidates for US Senate to appear on a primary ballot in North Carolina. They agree on dramatic cutbacks in government reach, strong Second Amendment rights, staying out of the Russia-Ukraine imbroglio, repealing ObamaCare, and scrapping Common Core curriculum standards, the Patriot Act, and the Federal Reserve. But Haugh and D'Annunzio hold different views on abortion, legalizing drugs, the scope of US military action, and immigration controls.

Ted Budd: Fiscal responsibility needed for U.S. to lead the world

We deserve better from our federal government. With an alarming debt and broken entitlement programs, we cannot keep kicking the can down the road. We must embrace policies which reduce the spirit of entitlement while rewarding hard work.

Taxes are too high and costs are rising, because politicians won't make the tough decisions to root out corruption and waste from government. I am outraged by the many families suffering because of bureaucratic incompetence in the VA. Many of my team members at ProShots are veterans, so I will not tolerate excuses or look the other way when it affects those who have dedicated their lives to protecting our homeland.

Fiscal responsibility is not just a good idea for Washington DC. For our country to lead the world, we must encourage personal and household financial responsibility and embrace policies that lead to superior long-term global competitiveness. The economy, and every American consumer, benefits when we do.

Thom Tillis: Continue to hold the line on spending

Q: What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

A: During my time in the Senate, I've broken with Republican leadership and voted against budgets that I felt spent too much money and I'm prepared to continue to hold the line on spending if I get reelected.
