On Education: Criticized Congress for not cutting Education Dept. budget

DeVos boldly submitted a $9 billion year-to-year reduction for her department. How did the Republican Congress respond? It granted the department a $2.6 billion increase in appropriations, instead of the requested cut. With control of both houses of Congress and the presidency -- and with a secretary pleading for reduced appropriations -- is this the best the GOP can do? If so, loyal Republicans should be asking themselves: "What difference does my vote (or my campaign contribution) make?"

On Foreign Policy: Wouldn't think twice about cutting foreign aid

This campaign will be a debate between Senator Tillis and me about issues and what is best for North Carolinians. They also deserve a Senator who stands with President Trump on issues like immigration, cutting spending, and foreign policy, and is not tied to the entrenched interests who benefit from the status quo. When President Trump proposed to cut foreign aid spending 30%, Senator Tillis said 'no.' I support spending cuts--and I wouldn't have had to think twice about cutting foreign aid.

On Immigration: Biggest issues are immigration & government spending

Tucker said, "I am a conservative I believe we need less government less spending and a secure border. The economy under Trump is phenomenal. As a long time Conservative, I see it as being out of the Reagan Playbook. The two big issues are immigration and government spending and I am looking forward to having a debate with Thom Tillis about these issues."

On Immigration: Agree with Trump on "emergency declaration" to fund wall

On the border wall: "When President Trump made his Emergency Declaration to build the Wall, I agreed. Thom Tillis not only disagreed, he published an op-ed in The Washington Post opposing the President. Then two weeks later, at the last minute, under pressure, Tillis flip-flopped.

On Principles & Values: Was less pro-Trump than anti-Clinton

In a column published in The News & Observer before the 2016 election, Tucker outlined his reluctance to Trump's campaign, but ultimately supported him over Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. Tucker expressed concern, as a Christian, about voting for Trump, whom he described as "a twice-divorced, self-acknowledged adulterer who has, in the course of this campaign, uttered some of the most unkind, disgusting comments ever made by any American politician."

On Principles & Values: Delighted and amazed at Trump's commitment to conservatives

In 2016, during the Presidential primary, like other conservatives I had my doubts about Mr. Trump. Without a policy record, I questioned whether he would govern as a conservative. Like millions of Americans, I could not more delighted, and frankly amazed, at how he has transformed this country in the last two years. His policies and leadership have more than fulfilled his commitment to conservatives and to the American people and I proudly stand with him in his initiatives.
