George Voinovich: Seek nominees with the proper qualifications-no litmus test

"I want people who are scholars of the law, and are going to protect the rights of minorities, Fingerhut said. Also, he wants justices that would uphold the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion, which he called "a fundamental right."

Voinovich countered that he would seek nominees with the proper qualifications and experience, an even temperament and who "could be fair and impartial."
