On Abortion: Lead the fight to protect the unborn

?I believe that every human being has an inalienable right to life. I am proudly pro-life, and as your Congressman, I will lead the fight to protect the unborn. One of my top priorities will be to defund Planned Parenthood. American taxpayers should not be forced to fund organizations that perform abortions.

On Budget & Economy: Returned $113M in unclaimed property, including tax refunds

In 2010 Ron was elected Kansas State Treasurer. As State Treasurer, he oversees more than $24 billion in public funds. Ron has continued his track record of finding efficiencies by coming in under budget by over $600,000 during his time in office. Key programs in the treasurer's office include Cash Management Unclaimed Property. Ron also serves on the Pooled Money Investment Board, which manages the investment of the state's idle funds.

During his tenure, Ron has visited all 105 Kansas counties and returned over $113,000,000 in unclaimed property to rightful owners. He also spearheaded legislation that improved the ability to match people with their unclaimed property through tax data. Another reform initiative changed law to require that unclaimed tax refund checks become unclaimed property so they can be matched with owners instead of remaining with the government.

On Budget & Economy: Support a balanced budget amendment

Families in the 4th district know they have to balance their budgets. Business owners understand they won't be in business long without a balanced budget. The federal government should not play by a different set of rules. I support a balanced budget amendment that will force the federal government to get its financial house in order.

On Civil Rights: Kansas ABLE: tax-free savings for people with disabilities

As State Treasurer in 2015, Ron worked with state and federal officials to implement the Kansas ABLE savings program, creating tax-free savings accounts for people with disabilities.

On Education: Oppose government telling us how to educate our children

I will never support the Federal Government? taking power further away from We the People. From our second amendment rights, to the education of our children, to our right to worship as we choose, our liberties must be protected from those who would use power to tell us what to believe and how we educate our children.

On Education: More visibility for Learning Quest college savings program

As State Treasurer, Ron identified creative ways to increase the visibility of the Learning Quest college savings program, such as sending Learning Quest information along with newly issued birth certificates.

On Environment: Fight the intrusive arm of the EPA

Growing up on my family's farm that has been in operation for over 100 years, I've seen firsthand the effects of onerous government regulations on farmers. I will fight the intrusive arm of the EPA and other agencies. I will support free and fair trade so that Kansas farmers can continue to feed the world. I will work to put an end to burdensome tax policies that harm our family farms.

On Government Reform: Five-year ban on members of Congress working as lobbyists

Changing the Culture of Washington: The insiders run too much in Washington. One of the biggest problems in Washington is the revolving door between Congress and the lobbying industry. Congressional votes should be based on the best interests of their districts and the nation, not on lining up a high paying lobbyist job. I support legislation that would prevent a former member of Congress from working as a lobbyist for five years following the completion of their term. This five-year ban would help shut the revolving door and lessen the influence of special interests in Washington. Also, I oppose special perks for members of Congress, which is why I support legislation that would require Congress to live by the same rules as the American people.

On Gun Control: Support the rights of gun owners, sportsmen, and hunters

The 2nd Amendment is a cornerstone of our Bill of Rights. I firmly believe that every law-abiding citizen has a right to defend themselves, their family, and their property. I will fight against efforts in Washington to take away these rights. I am a proud NRA member, and as your Congressman, I will support the rights of gun owners, sportsmen, and hunters.

On Health Care: ObamaCare must be repealed

ObamaCare has failed our nation. Promise after promise has been broken. Democratic leaders promised us we could keep our health insurance plans. This was not true. We were told that ObamaCare would lower premiums. Instead premiums and deductibles have skyrocketed. Skyrocketing premiums force families to choose between necessities or health care. That is wrong. ObamaCare must be repealed. Families and individuals in the 4th district should be the primary voice in making their healthcare decisions, not unelected Washington bureaucrats. I support replacing ObamaCare with a state based free market solution that gives each of us greater authority over our health care decisions.

On Immigration: Securing the Southern border must be our first priority

For decades, Washington insiders have ignored the realities on our Southern border. This is unacceptable. The American people are not safe when we do not know who is entering and leaving our country. Securing the border must be our first priority. Our immigration process must deter criminals and terrorists from entering illegally while providing a fair, efficient process for law abiding individuals wishing to pursue the American dream.

On Principles & Values: Won special election with national GOP support

Republican Ron Estes has won a special election to replace Rep. Mike Pompeo, who became President Trump's CIA director. Estes defeated Democrat Jim Thompson. The seat was considered to be by Republicans a straight win--until an energized Democratic base left Estes with a smaller advantage.

Trump tweeted about the race, urging voters to get out and support Estes over his Democratic challenger. And Estes had another influential GOP name stumping for him--Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who won the state in the 2016 Republican primaries. Trump, as well as Vice President Mike Pence recorded a robocall endorsing the candidate for the seat, and House Speaker Paul Ryan sent out a fundraising plea.

The district is solidly Republican--Trump won the district in the general election by 27 points [while Estes won by only 7 points]. Meanwhile, the Democratic Campaign Committee did not spent money to help Thompson at all--and the Kansas State Democratic Party rejected his requests for funding mailers.

On Tax Reform: Simplified, fairer, flatter tax code grows the economy

Individuals in the private sector grow the economy, not the government. A simplified, fairer, flatter tax code free of ad-hoc deductions and tax breaks will relieve the burden placed on American families and reign in the power of the IRS bureaucracy. Rolling back this authority and reforming our tax code will transfer power from the IRS bureaucrats back to the taxpayers.

On War & Peace: Take the fight to ISIS and exit the disastrous Iran deal

ISIS and Iran have been emboldened by the disastrous foreign policies of President Obama. Those who wish to do us harm have grown stronger as the Middle East continues to unravel. The Obama administration turned its back on our strongest ally in the region, Israel. The United States must play a leadership role in taking the fight to ISIS and exit the disastrous Iran deal. In addition, we must have better safeguards in place to prevent radical Islamic terrorists from gaining entry to our nation.

On Gun Control: Support for concealed carry reciprocity

The National Rifle Association on Friday announced it has endorsed State Treasurer Ron Estes in the April 11th Kansas 4th Congressional District special election. The NRA praised Estes as a protector of gun rights, citing his opposition to anti 2nd Amendment policy trends that work to restrict ownership of guns and related equipment.

"The right to bear arms is integral to the American way of life. It's a right cherished by millions across the country and in Kansas," Treasurer Estes said.

The endorsement letter praised Treasurer Estes' support for concealed carry laws. "NRA members and gun owners appreciate your strong support for concealed carry reciprocity, to ensure that the 15 million law-abiding Americans who can carry a concealed firearm in their home state are able to do so in any other state that does not prohibit concealed carry," according to the letter from the NRA-ILA Executive Director.

On Abortion: Strong advocate for the unborn

Kansans for Life endorsed Ron Estes in his run for US Congress. The endorsement email sent to KFL members says:

"Ron Estes is running as the Republican candidate and has been endorsed by Kansans for Life. Ron has been actively involved with Kansans for Life for a number of years and is a regular attender at KFL events around the state. We are very excited to have Ron as our candidate and believe he will be a strong advocate for the unborn in Washington D.C.

"His opponent, James Thompson, has said that he hopes to remove all restrictions on abortion, including repealing the Hyde Amendment which prevents tax-payer money from funding abortions. It is critical that pro-lifers get out to vote for Ron Estes."

On Budget & Economy: We returned $65 million to Kansans to help grow the economy

The 2014 Kansas Republican Party's "Clean Sweep" Bus Tour made stops in El Dorado and Augusta as they began their four-day tour across Kansas. Sen. Pat Roberts, Gov. Sam Brownback, Rep. Mike Pompeo, and State Treasurer Ron Estes made the stop visiting with constituents and talking about the upcoming election.

Estes said, "Four years ago when we had the clean sweep bus tour we elected Republicans all up and down the ballot statewide and federal. In those four years we've returned over $65 million to Kansans so they can help grow the economy in Kansas." He said the governor and legislature worked to improve the pension system in the state.

He said, "I'm a CPA. I have 32 years of directly relevant insurance experience for this job," he began. "If you want somebody who understands business and how to bring good business practices to this incredibly important insurance department. I'm your man."
