John Hoeven: Prioritized improving public safety in tribal communities

We prioritized improving public safety in tribal communities. That includes passing Savanna's Act that requires law enforcement to develop more effective methods to address missing and murdered Native Americans. Through my role on the Senate Appropriations Committee, I have worked to advance the goals of my SURVIVE Act by dedicating funding from the Crime Victims Fund (CVF) for tribes to provide services to victims of violence.

Michael J. Steele: Opposes death penalty; innocent people have been executed

I will be tough on crime one thing that our former leaders in North Dakota forgot about. I am however against the death penalty because to many of our citizen who were innocent after modern technological advancements such as DNA and Forensics proved that the wrong people's lives were terminated due to the death penalty. I believe the punishment should fit the crime.

Michael J. Steele: Supports Rapid Response for battered women

Rapid Response team for Abused, Battered, and Stranded Women: I support this 100% because I have helped some women that were trapped in an abusing situation already. Some of the women that I helped preferred to be stranded in the cold wintertime just to escape from their abusers. These women need our help right now throughout not only the Dakotas but also the rest of our country as a whole. I will fight in the Senate to have this Bill adopted.
