State of North Dakota Archives: on Homeland Security
John Hoeven:
Provide military with best equipment, facilities, support
The U.S. faces no shortage of national security concerns including challenges from Russia and China and the threat of terrorism. We have to meet these challenges head-on, and that means marshaling all elements of our nation's power to keep Americans
safe. North Dakota plays a critical role in our national defense thanks to its top-notch military installations and our men and women in uniform. I am proud to advocate on behalf of North Dakota's military members and their critical missions.
The cornerstone of U.S. security and the foundation for a peaceful future is a strong U.S. military. We can never take for granted the sacrifices of our servicemen and women. We must provide them with the best equipment, facilities, and support possible
so they can continue to defend our freedoms. Additionally, as our brave men and women leave military service, we must ensure they receive the health care, benefits, and recognition they have earned.

Rick Becker:
Must work to reduce our military footprint around the world
Most importantly, the Authority for Use of Military Force must be dramatically revised. I will not stand for sending our men and women overseas to risk their lives, when those in Congress will not even risk their political career to declare a war.
If no declared war, then no dead American soldiers. The war authority is given to Congress, not the president. We must work to reduce our military footprint around the world in places in which it no longer serves a national security purpose.

Rick Berg:
Core responsibility is to have a strong military
America is the greatest force for good in the world. Our freedom and the will to defend it is a shining example for other nations. In order to continue to serve as a guide and aid to other nations, we must maintain our strength at home and commit
ourselves to ensuring that America's forces are modern, capable, and agile enough to effectively deal with threats abroad.
The world and its threats are changing, but America's position as a principled and strong leader must not.
One of our core responsibilities is to have a strong military. North Dakota is home to thousands of veterans and service members, two
Air Force Bases, and numerous Air and Army National Guard Posts. North Dakota's bases perform vital missions and I support their continued role in keeping America safe.

Doug Burgum:
Budgeted to create a North Dakota Military Museum
When telling the North Dakota story, it cannot be done without highlighting our military members. Included in the executive budget is a public/private Military Museum, right here on the Capitol grounds connected to the Heritage Center.
The inspirational service and sacrifice of our military members is deserving of a peaceful setting where current and future generations of North Dakotans can learn about and reflect upon the incredible legacy of those men and women in uniform.
