State of New Mexico Archives: on Tax Reform

David Clements: Make the tax code simple and regulations predictable

Government should facilitate an enhanced economic environment by making the tax code simple and regulations predictable. Hard work should be rewarded. That means no more bailouts or special favors for companies and industries with powerful D.C. lobbies.

Senator Tom Udall has spent years helping special interest groups make millions at the expense of hard working New Mexico taxpayers. This cannot continue.

Jay Block: Waive 50-75% property tax for retired first responders

As your Governor, I know that we need to take care of our first responders after their service to our communities, just like our veterans. If you're a retired New Mexican first responder, I will push to waive 50-75% of your property taxes while you live in NM. I firmly believe and know from my military experience that many of our first responders have physical and mental scars after years of service.

Michelle Lujan-Grisham: Tax cuts for middle class, make system more progressive

In my budget priorities, I am asking for $1 billion in economic relief including rebates of $750 to each individual taxpayer or $1,500 to couples to help more New Mexicans afford the things they need right now. I am proposing a tax reform package intended to support New Mexico's working families and businesses cutting our gross receipts tax rate again to help consumers save money; and delivering personal income tax cuts for middle class New Mexicans by making our system more progressive.
