Adam Laxalt: Support crisis pregnancy center to help mothers choose life

Nevada's Democratic Party doesn't think a women's right to choose should include picking where she gets medical treatment.

Last week, Republican gubernatorial candidate and Attorney General Adam Laxalt visited First Choice Pregnancy Services, a crisis pregnancy center. It provides free services for pregnant women, including pregnancy tests, ultrasounds and counseling. The goal of crisis pregnancy centers is to help mothers choose life for their preborn babies.

"If his outspoken opposition to Planned Parenthood isn't enough, his embrace of this shameful group is enough to demonstrate where he stands," tweeted Democratic gubernatorial candidate and Clark County Commission Chair Steve Sisolak in response to Laxalt's visit.

Is it shameful to give pregnant women free pregnancy tests and ultrasounds? Neither Sisolak nor his campaign responded to calls for comments.

Adam Laxalt: Look into repealing NV abortion rights law

Q: Abortion: Mostly ban or mostly legal?

Adam Laxalt (R): Has signed onto lawsuits to significantly limit. Said would "look into" repealing NV abortion rights law, though later reversed this statement.

Steve Sisolak (D): Legal. Reproductive decisions should be between a woman and her doctor.

Q: Allow Planned Parenthood to receive public funds for non-abortion health services?

Adam Laxalt (R): Unclear. Investigated Planned Parenthood to confirm it didn't do surgical abortions, but public funding is for federal government to decide.

Steve Sisolak (D): Yes. Ran ad saying that as a single father relied on Planned Parenthood to get his daughters health screenings and information.

Catherine Cortez Masto: Endorsed by EMILY's List

Catherine Cortez Masto, seeking to become the first Latina elected to the Senate, has won the endorsement of EMILY's List. The group that supports Democratic women who back abortion rights hailed the former Nevada attorney general as a champion of women and families. "Catherine is a dedicated public servant with a record of working to make communities safer, prevent violence against women and increase educational opportunities so that all Nevadans have a fair shot," said EMILY's List President.

If she wins the 2016 race, Cortez Masto also would become the first woman elected to the Senate to represent Nevada. She is the fourth female Senate candidate endorsed by EMILY's List so far this cycle, joining incumbent Sen. Patty Murray of Washington, who is seeking a fifth term in 2016, and candidates Kamala Harris in California and Rep. Donna Edwards in Maryland.

Dan Schwartz: Don't stop abortions but don't pay for them either

Addressing a hot-button issue, Schwartz said abortion should be legal but not funded by taxpayers. "This is a personal choice," he said. "If you want it, you pay for it." Schwartz likened the issue to gender-reassignment surgeries and said he's not passing moral judgment--just trying to enforce the law fairly and equally. Schwartz said what is "most crucial" is ensuring that a child is loved and cared for upon entering the world.

Danny Tarkanian: Life starts at conception

Danny Tarkanian believes life starts at conception.

The difference between Sen. Heller and me? I mean it.

My Dad, like yours, taught me that a man's word is his bond. And we teach our kids that if you make a promise, keep the promise. Dean Heller didn't do that. I will. Guaranteed. You have it in writing.

Jacky Rosen: Women's health care decisions are personal

Jacky believes that women's health care decisions are personal, and that government has no place getting between a woman and her doctor. She'll oppose any effort to defund Planned Parenthood, or restrict women's ability to make their own health care and contraception decisions.

Jared Fisher: Pro-life because pregnancy involves two persons

Because it involves two persons, I am pro-life. But I am against the extreme view that ANY abortion should have negative consequences for the mother. If the situation involves rape, incest, or health of the mother, it should be decided by the mother with no questions asked. In other cases, I do not believe that abortion should be a matter of convenience.

John Jay Lee: Was a pro-life Democrat, became a Republican

[Campaign announcement]: Lee concluded, "When you're a pro-life Democrat, a pro-gun Democrat, and you're a very conservative person, that's not really well known in the Democratic Party any more. And so for me to hang on as long as I did, hoping the party would change, it didn't, it got worse. So therefore, I found a new place that I can put my allegiance to and help.
