Jaime Harrison: Reduce dependency on fossil fuels; oppose offshore drilling

Climate change is an existential threat to our coastal communities, and it is beginning to affect areas that previously never had to consider emergency preparation. Jaime will take action to make our coastline resilient, protecting our clean air and water, reduce our dependency on fossil fuels, and prepare our infrastructure for rising sea levels and increasingly powerful storms. Jaime will also protect South Carolinians by opposing any drilling off our pristine coast.

James Emerson Smith: Keep expanding in renewable energy; stay on cutting edge

Thomas Ravenel: Don't divert resources for folly of global warming

I support the vigorous defense and national security of the United States. The Obama administration is decimating critical aspects of our military while diverting resources vital to national security for research on global warming and other political follies. With a smarter approach to national security, it is possible to reduce the Defense budget. We are currently spending money on many of the wrong things.

Joe Cunningham: AdWatch: Ban offshore drilling for oil and gas

Gov. Henry McMaster is trying to make his political rival eat his own words by reminding voters of the time Democrat Joe Cunningham praised the Republican for his leadership on the issue of offshore drilling. Cunningham's comments, made at a Lowcountry seafood restaurant in 2019, are now featured prominently in a new 30-second TV ad called "Thank You."

But what the ad leaves out, is that McMaster also praised Cunningham that day when the governor thanked Cunningham for his work in Congress on a bill to ban the search for oil and gas off the nation's coasts.

Cunningham responded to the ad by thanking McMaster in the spirit of cooperation. "I want to thank the governor for reminding voters of my long record of bipartisan work and his support for my efforts in Congress," he said. "I was proud to be ranked one of the most independent and effective members of Congress because of my willingness and ability to work across the aisle to get big things done."

Henry McMaster: South Carolina moving with auto industry towards electric

As you will notice, the automotive industry continues moving towards electric vehicles, and South Carolina is moving along with it. Last year I issued an executive order prioritizing the recruitment of these manufacturers to ensure that our state will continue to be seen as the ideal place for manufacturers and suppliers to do business. South Carolina will continue to adapt as the industry innovates and grows.
