Biden Cabinet members actions and issues: on Technology

Jennifer Granholm: Advocates for manufacturing, domestic R&D efforts

Granholm has a history of advocating for domestic manufacturing as a necessary complement to domestic R&D efforts, for instance with companies manufacturing components for electric vehicles. As secretary of energy, she would be able to approach those priorities on a much larger scale through the DOE's far-reaching research and investment portfolio.

Deb Haaland: Would park near wi-fi hot spot to do homework with daughter

Press release: "It's heartbreaking to see children huddling around a wi-fi hotspot to get their homework done--I know what that's like. My daughter and I would park at Barnes and Noble and do our homework in the car together because we couldn't afford the internet. It shouldn't be this way. After writing and encouraging the FCC to expand access, I'm glad they approved this funding for underserved areas. I will continue to fight for broadband internet for all New Mexicans," said Haaland.

Pete Buttigieg: Transportation part of solution to greenhouse gas emissions

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said Thursday that the U.S. has a "once in a century opportunity" to push forward infrastructure reforms and added that the country is on the verge of an "infrastructure season" that could potentially turn into an "infrastructure decade." Buttigieg spoke Thursday at the virtual South by Southwest festival.

[On the planned infrastructure bill]: "Transportation can be a part of the solution," Buttigieg said. "In fact, it has to be because transportation is the biggest part of the problem. We're the biggest sector when it comes to greenhouse gas emissions, which means improving transportation is the biggest thing we can do to get our economy on the right track." According to the EPA, greenhouse gas emissions from transportation account for nearly 30% of total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions.
