Past and present Governor candidates from Georgia: on Gun Control

Brian Kemp: Respect the 2nd Amendment if you want to date my daughter

TV campaign ad: "I'm Brian Kemp, this is Jake, a young man interested in one of my daughters," Kemp, the candidate and Georgia's current secretary of state, says while polishing a double-barrel shotgun on his lap in the middle of a room decked out with handguns, hunting rifles, and at least two AR-15-style weapons.

"Yes, sir," Jake, a young man in khakis, responds.

"Jake asked why I was running for governor," Kemp says. He prompts Jake to list off: to "cap government spending," to "take a chainsaw to regulations," and to "make Georgia number one for small business."

"And two things if you're going to date one of my daughters?" Kemp then asks.

"Respect," Jake answers. "And a healthy respect for the Second Amendment, sir."

Kemp then cocks the gun up, apparently toward Jake, and then says, "We're going to get along just fine."

[Ad fades to a scene showing framed family photos including teenage girls, with caption, "Brian Kemp, Conservative Businessman for Governor."]

Hunter Hill: State should enact reasonable restrictions on guns

[After a series of shootings in July 2016] "Georgia must have a thoughtful conversation about the national epidemic of gun violence and racially discriminatory policing," said Abrams. Georgians "face the failure of our state to implement reasonable restrictions to keep guns out of the wrong hands." The House Democratic Caucus, she said, will explore a package of proposals that will include gun restrictions and wider access to mental health care via expansion of Medicaid.

Casey Cagle: Expand citizens' ability to protect themselves & families

Our right to keep and bear arms is enshrined in both the federal and state Constitutions, and it is a bedrock of the liberty we enjoy as Americans. Since Lt. Governor Cagle's election, the Republican majority has comprehensively re-written Georgia's firearms laws to expand the ability of law abiding citizens to protect themselves and their families. Additionally, his continued support of access to outdoor recreation opportunities has helped ensured future generations of Georgians will enjoy hunting, shooting, fishing and other outdoor activities their parents and grandparents cherish. He has also been a vocal supporter of relocating gun manufacturers to Georgia and away from liberal states, creating jobs for our citizens here.

Our state will continue to be eyed carefully by liberal national groups who want to limit our ability to exercise our freedoms. For this reason, we must never stop being vigilant against attempts to restrict our liberties.

Stacey Abrams: Gun-carry license doesn't apply to "campus carry"

HB 280: Current version of "campus carry." HB 280 would allow for any weapons carry license holder to concealed carry a firearm on public university campuses. Athletic areas, student housing, and fraternity and sorority houses are not covered under the proposed exception. Carrying is also prohibited on up to three on-campus pre-school spaces. MY VOTE: NO
