Joe Biden: No punishment for Saudis killing Jamal Khashoggi

PROMISE MADE:(Atlanta debate 11/20/19): "[Journalist Jamal] Khashoggi was murdered on the order of the crown prince. I would make it clear we were not going to sell more weapons to them, we were going to make them the pariah that they are. There's very little social redeeming value in the present government in Saudi Arabia.

PROMISE BROKEN: (A.P., 3/2/21): The Biden administration made clear it would forgo sanctions or any other major penalty against Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in the Khashoggi killing, even after a U.S. intelligence report concluded the prince ordered it. Ultimately, Biden administration officials said, U.S. interests in maintaining relations with Saudi Arabia forbid making a pariah of a young prince who may go on to rule the kingdom for decades.

Tim James: Alabama supported Israel years before 1948 founding

While Alabama "has always been mocked for our values," James said, it supported the formation of Israel years before it came a nation in 1948 and has a special place in the nation's future. Support of Israel is a foundational issue for many evangelicals.

Greg Gianforte: Signed law banning foreign adversaries from buying property

Republican Gov. Greg Gianforte signed a bill Thursday to prohibit the sale or lease of agricultural land, critical infrastructure and homes near military assets in Montana to the government, businesses and individuals from China, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia or Venezuela--all countries the U.S. government designates foreign adversaries. "Montana will not stand idly by as foreign adversaries buy up our farmland, harvest private data, and spy on Americans," Gianforte said in a statement.
