The Associated Press: on Principles & Values
Amy Coney Barrett:
Member of the conservative People of Praise faith community
Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett's affiliation with the Christian community People of Praise is drawing scrutiny because of what former members and observers describe as its ultraconservative views on women.
The AP has documented extensive ties Barrett and her family have to the community,
including that an old directory listed her as being one of the organization's "handmaids," now called a "woman leader." She was a trustee of the group's
Trinity Schools, and as a young law student, lived in a house owned by one of its co-founders.

Dave Lindstrom:
Concerned about growing embrace of socialism
Lindstrom said he's concerned about what he sees as a growing embrace of socialism and "I think our country's under attack.""People are making promises with other people's money
and resources that they cannot keep, that they understand are not sustainable--that will create an environment in this country, of one of entitlement, as opposed to hard work," he said. "That's what I mean when I talk about socialism."

Kevin Paffrath:
Recall part of a national referendum on Trumpism
Newsom emphatically defeated a recall aimed at kicking him out of office early, a contest the Democrat framed as part of a national battle for his party's values in the face of the coronavirus pandemic and continued threats from "Trumpism."
Republican talk radio host Larry Elder almost certainly would have replaced Newsom had the recall succeeded. The recall turned on Newsom's approach to the pandemic, including mask and vaccine mandates.

Martha McSally:
It "pisses me off" when Trump attacks John McCain
McSally deflected repeated questions about whether she's proud to support Trump or would have been proud to serve under him during her Air Force career. But she did offer a rare criticism of the president for his repeated comments critical of the late
Sen. John McCain, the beloved Arizona Republican who died in 2018. "I publicly and privately, repeatedly talked to President Trump and asked him to stop attacking John McCain," McSally said. "Quite frankly, it pisses me of when he does it."

Ron DeSantis:
Compels schools to have moment of silence for prayer
DeSantis visited a Jewish temple to denounce anti-Semitism and stand with Israel, as the governor cloaked himself in religion while signing a bill into law that would require public schools in his state to set aside at least one minute of silence for
children to meditate or pray. [It] makes Florida one of at least 15 states that would compel schools to hold moments of silence at public schools. The state had already been among roughly 18 other states that gave schools the option to do so.

Tim James:
God granted America authority amongst nations
[On campaign announcement]: "We stand at the gate of our state Capitol and seek God's forgiveness for the sins of America, and we decree in the name of
Jesus that Alabama will lead America in the years ahead, back to its proper position of authority amongst the nations, of which authority was granted by God at our inception," said James, who quoted scripture.

Justin Fairfax:
Denies two allegations of sexual assault
Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax is launching a run for governor despite facing two high-profile allegations of sexual assault he has strenuously denied. The lieutenant governor position is a traditional launchpad for gubernatorial bids, and
Fairfax would normally be considered a strong candidate. But unsettled allegations of sexual assault, made by two women will complicate his ability to raise money and build support.

Preston Love:
Ran as 2020 Senate write-in candidate backed by state Dems
Ricketts was appointed to the Senate by his successor, fellow Republican Gov. Jim Pillen, early last year to fill a vacancy left when former Sen. Ben Sasse resigned to take a job as president of the University of Florida. The appointment was for a
two-year span until a special election could be held in 2024 for remaining two years of the term. It was a move panned even by some Republicans as having the appearance of back-room dealing.Love hopes to appeal to voters turned off by Ricketts'
appointment and who want to see more congressional action to address issues that concern both urban and rural residents.
It is the second time the state party has backed Love for the Senate seat--although the first time came under unusual, scandal-
plagued circumstance. State Democrats settled on Love as a write-in candidate for the seat in 2020 after Chris Janicek, who won the Democratic primary, refused the party's demands to drop out of the race after he sent lewd texts about a campaign staffer.
