Jerry Moran: Inflation Reduction Act will raise taxes on working families

[On newly-passed spending bill]: "The idea that spending more money and increasing taxes will be helpful in combating inflation is false and confirmed by the Congressional Budget Office. Rather than taking steps to curb spending and expand energy production, the so-called Inflation Reduction Act will raise taxes on small businesses and working families, including by hiring 87,000 more IRS agents to target more Americans with tax audits."

Tate Reeves: Wants to push for a full elimination of state's income tax

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves promised to push for a full elimination of the state's income tax during the 2023 legislative session. The move would make Mississippi the 10th state with no income tax. Addressing a crowd of business leaders Reeves touted "the largest tax cut in Mississippi history during the 2022 session" and said he wanted to go even further.

Andy Wells: Don't derail cuts to corporate and individual income tax

On announcing for governor: "We're bringing in a lot of people into in North Carolina. We are well positioned for the future, but we've got to be in a position to deal with the future," Wells said. Making government more efficient--not derailing recent actions by the Republican-controlled General Assembly to reduce corporate and individual income tax rates--is one way to put the state on stronger footing, he added.

Bob Ferguson: Surtax on big banks makes state's tax system fairer

The Washington Supreme Court unanimously upheld a new tax on big banks aimed at providing essential services and improving the state's regressive tax system. The 1.2% business and occupation surtax--a tax added on top of other taxes--was passed by the Legislature in 2019. Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson called the ruling "a win for those fighting to make Washington's tax system fairer."
