The Associated Press: on Corporations

Tom Leppert: I'm a career businessman; I've actually created jobs

In his attempt to set himself apart from the other candidates, Leppert pitched his experience as a career businessman before entering politics. "I don't only talk about creating jobs and cutting spending, I've actually done it," the former Dallas mayor said.

Leppert suggested that Texans needed a senator who wasn't a career politician like Dewhurst, lacking in business experience like Cruz, or inexperienced holding elected office like James.

John Boozman: Tax cuts for higher income helps small business owners

The two disagreed over the tax cuts that were instituted under former President George W. Bush, with Lincoln calling for extending the cuts for low to moderate income taxpayers.

Lincoln, however, said that extending the tax cuts for the wealthy should only be done if it can be paid for. "The ultrawealthy, I do not think should receive that tax cut unless it is paid for in a responsible way, and that's an important thing we have Boozman said he supports extending all of the tax cuts and said that not extending them for the higher income taxpayers would hurt small business owners. "The last thing we need to do in this economy is raise expenses on small businesses, especially on small businesses that are making money," Boozman said. "That makes no sense at all."

John Neely Kennedy: Disallow bank getting so big that its failure wrecks economy

Both candidates offered differing views of how to ease the national economic crisis. Kennedy said federal officials should suspend accounting rules that financial industry representatives blame for exacerbating the problems. He said Congress should put limits on the nation’s banks and lending firms. “Never again can we allow a financial institution to get so big that its failure can wreck our economy,” he said.
