Bernie Sanders: Registered Independent; calls himself a democratic socialist

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders is challenging front-runner Hillary Clinton for the 2016 Democrat party presidential nomination. Though he is a registered Independent and is proud to call himself a democratic socialist, he will run as a Democrat.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, to Jewish immigrants from Poland, Sanders, 73, spent one year at Brooklyn College, graduated from the University of Chicago in 1964 and then moved to Vermont.

Donald Trump: Attended military academy & Wharton Business School

Trump grew up in Queens, New York, where his father had created a real estate business from scratch. His father sent him off to the New York Military Academy where he was a captain of the cadets and captain of the baseball team. "I learned a lot about discipline & about channeling my aggression into achievement," he wrote in his 1987 book, "The Art of the Deal." "I was a good-enough student at the academy, thought I can't say I worked very hard. I was lucky that it came relatively easy to me, because I was never all that interested in schoolwork."

He said he "flirted briefly" with attending film school at the University of Southern California but decided that real estate was his calling. He spent two years at Fordham University in the Bronx before transferring to the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School and graduating in 1968. "Perhaps the most important thing I learned at Wharton was not to be overly impressed by academic credentials," he wrote in "The Art of the Deal."

Kanye West: God appoints the president

On the 2020 election: "Let's see if the appointing is at 2020 or if it's 2024--because God appoints the president. If I win in 2020 then it was God's appointment. If I win in 2024 then that was God's appointment."

Kanye West: I put everything I get on the line to serve God

On the presidential race: "I just gracefully suggest y'all bow out--Trump and Biden, gracefully bow out. It's God's country, we are doing everything in service to God, nobody but God no more. I am in service of our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, and I put everything I get on the line to serve God."

Tom Vilsack: Launches presidential bid; files FEC paperwork

Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack, a centrist Democrat seeking an early edge in an all-but-certain crowded presidential field, launched a long-shot bid for the White House. 15 months before his own state holds caucuses--the first step in the nominating process-- Vilsack announced his candidacy, filed documents with the Federal Election Commission and heralded a multistate tour beginning Nov. 30.

The governor is the first Democrat to file for the presidency although a number of better known candidates are presumed to be running. "Americans sent a clear message on Tuesday. They want leaders who will take this country in a new direction," he said. "They want leaders who share their values, understand their needs, and respect their intelligence. That's what I've done as governor of Iowa, and that's what I intend to do as president."

In polls, Vilsack has trailed the other potential candidates, among them Hillary Clinton & John Edwards. The governor even was behind in a survey of Iowans.
