The Atlanta Journal-Constitution: on Budget & Economy

Latham Saddler: Stimulus has too much wasteful spending

Q: On the federal stimulus measure?

A: There's too much capacity of wasteful spending. There's a number of concerns, including that people are hurting economically but the amount they've received from a stimulus check is just a fraction of the total package. China is doing everything they can to instill a lack of confidence across the globe and destabilize the dollar, and we're racking up trillions of dollars in debt. I worry about that from a national security standpoint.

Karen Handel: Cut spending and reduce regulations

Karen Handel promised to cut spending, repeal Obamacare and reduce regulations when she announced her candidacy in the 6th Congressional District special election. "I have a record of standing up and fighting the status quo to get things done," Handel said, "and I will take that fight to Washington."

Michelle Nunn: Supports "Gang of Eight" deal to reduce $17T debt

Nunn said, "I've learned that you can't wait for somebody else to do it. Everybody has an individual role and a responsibility to contribute where they can." Nunn said she intends to make the nation's finances and deficit reduction a key focus of her campaign, picking up where Sen. Saxby Chambliss leaves off. Chambliss, a Republican who retires next year, has played a central role in the so far unsuccessful "Gang of Eight" effort to craft a deal to reduce the $17 trillion federal debt.
