"It is my Great Honor to announce that General Michael Flynn has been granted a Full Pardon," Trump tweeted. "Congratulations to @GenFlynn and his wonderful family!"
Flynn is the 2nd Trump associate convicted in the Russia probe to be granted clemency by the president. Trump commuted the sentence of longtime confidant Roger Stone just days before he was to report to prison. It is part of a broader effort to undo the results of an investigation that for years has shadowed his administration and yielded criminal charges against a half dozen associates.
The action voids the criminal case against Flynn. Democrats lambasted the pardon, calling it undeserved & unprincipled.
Akin, a six-term congressman, took exception. "If I were a career politician, I'd stay in a safe congressional district, wouldn't I?" While Akin listed jobs in a steel mill and for IBM, he also painted his experience in Washington, D.C., as an attribute. "I don't think the Senate is the place for on-the-job training," he said.
Brunner, who has poured more than $2 million of his own money into his campaign and has outspent his opponents, called Akin's remarks about on-the-job training "political talk." His opponents' recent job experience "is a little different than being on the production line," he said.
Boone County Republicans gave a narrow nod to Vicky Hartzler, who represented the 4th Congressional District before making her Senate bid. Hartzler received 5,693 votes, (42%) in the county, compared to Schmitt's 5,425 (40%). Only one in 10 Boone County GOP voters supported former Gov. Eric Greitens, who finished third statewide.
Boone County Democrats gave Lucas Kunce more than half their support, with 8,167 votes (53%) compared to Busch Valentine's 4,727 (31%). The county was one of four in the state to support Kunce with more than half of its vote share.
