Adrian Perkins: Awarded Sam Cooke apology; posthumous Key to the City

Legendary singer Sam Cooke received a public apology for the racially motivated mistreatment he suffered in 1963 at the hands of hotel staff and law enforcement while performing in Shreveport. Perkins posthumously awarded the "King of Soul" the key to the city at the Let the Good Times Roll Festival. "I'm so honored that Mayor Perkins took the time to do the apology while I was performing at the festival," said the singer's daughter, Carla Cooke, accepting the honor on her father's behalf.

Andrew Giuliani: I'm a politician out of the womb; it's in my DNA

[Campaign announcement interview]: "I'm a politician out of the womb. It's in my DNA," Giuliani, 35, told The Post, referring to his childhood as the son of a larger than life Big Apple mayor. "Giuliani vs. Cuomo. Holy smokes. Its Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier. We can sell tickets at Madison Square Garden," he said, referring to the famous 1971 heavyweight title prizefight.

Joe DioGuardi: Accused of making deals in a $1.7 billion Ponzi scheme

DioGuardi accused Gillibrand of shilling for Big Tobacco, while Gillibrand expressed "serious questions" over reports that federal regulators were investigating his ties to a business deal.

"This is a complete fabrication & a misrepresentation of who I am," DioGuardi said. DioGuardi insisted he was merely a bit player in the deal described by a Gillibrand ad as a "Madoff-style $1.7 billion Ponzi scheme."

He returned fire by highlighting defense work Gillibrand did as an attorney for tobacco giant Philip Morris in the 1990s. "She was actually the architect of everything that company did to try to hide the fact that cigarettes cause cancer," he said.

"Your arguments are absolutely fantasy," Gillibrand scoffed. The senator characterized her tobacc work as something she got stuck with when she was "a junior associate in a big firm."

She pointed out that DioGuardi, too, had represented Big Tobacco, as an accountant. DioGuardi objected, and she shot back: "Oh, so you didn't choose your clients?"

Kanye West: Name "Birthday Party" means more kids with more birthdays

West explained that he made his decision to name his political party the Birthday Party because it was "about life," referencing abortion again. "The connection point to the Birthday Party is dealing with life, and pro-life, because these are kids who are now going to get a chance to have birthdays." Kanye went on to explain that with his candidacy and promoting black motherhood, more children would be born, and thus, more children would have birthday parties.

Kirsten Gillibrand: Accused of hiding facts connecting cigarettes and cancer

The pair traded their toughest blows over jobs each had held outside public office. DioGuardi accused Gillibrand of shilling for Big Tobacco, while Gillibrand expressed "serious questions" over reports that federal regulators were investigating his ties to a business deal. DioGuardi insisted he was merely a bit player in the deal described by a Gillibrand ad as a "Madoff-style $1.7 billion Ponzi scheme."

Sarah Huckabee Sanders: Sanders is Christian, conservative, a proud Arkansan

[Endorsement from the former Vice President]: "Sarah Huckabee Sanders is a Christian, a conservative, and a proud Arkansan who will fight for the people of Arkansas, stand with law enforcement, promote lower taxes, champion school choice, and more," Mike Pence said. Wendy Long: OpEd: provides conservative Republican ideological diversity

Simply put, New York deserves a more substantive senator than Kirsten Gillibrand--a woman who turned her back on her comparatively moderate House record to become a full-fledged knee-jerk left-liberal. But given the sorry state of the New York Republican Party, there really weren't many top-flight candidates willing to give her a run for her money. Too bad. She needed a real challenge.

Alas, Long has been nearly invisible since her resounding win in the GOP primary, which she got thanks to the backing of the state Conservative Party. Frankly, we doubt that Rep. Bob Turner, whom she defeated in that race, would've been such a shrinking violet. Certainly, she was never able to raise much money.

But we support Long, because she's far superior on the issues, and because there should be some ideological diversity in New York's political leadership, where Republicans--and especially conservative Republicans--are rare birds.
