Dick Cheney: Most dire view of terrorist threat of all Bush advisers

Cheney is free to roam about the various agencies, quizzing analysts and top spooks about terrorists and their global connections. “This is a very important area. I ask a lot of hard questions. That’s my job.”

Of all the president’s advisers, Cheney has consistently taken the most dire view of the terrorist threat. On Iraq, Bush was the decision maker. But more than any adviser, Cheney was the one to make the case to the president that war against Iraq was an urgent necessity. Beginning in Aug. 2002, he persistently warned that Saddam was stocking up on chemical and biological weapons, and in March 2003, on the eve of the invasion, he declared that “we believe that he Saddam Hussein has in fact reconstituted nuclear weapons.” (Cheney later said that he meant “program,” not “weapons.” He also said, a bit optimistically, “I really do believe that we will be greeted as liberators.”) After seven months, investigators are still looking for that arsenal of WMD.

Elizabeth Dole: We must win, even if it takes ground troops

Dole flew this week to a refugee camp in Macedonia. The tales she'd heard were "absolutely horrific," said Dole. "This is a war we must win," even if it takes American troops to do it.

Sarah Palin: Yes, we can kill our way to victory in the Mideast

One barb [in Palin's CPAC speech] got a lot of attention--her riposte to an Obama spokesperson who said the U.S. couldn't kill its way to victory in the Mideast. "Oh, the naive Obama State Department. They say we can't kill our way out of war. Really? Tell that to the Nazis. Oh wait, you can't. They're dead. We killed 'em," Palin said.

She also pointedly noted: "Did we actually win in Iraq and Afghanistan before we waved the white flag? The jury is still out."

Of course, Palin is still Palin. At one point she said, "The Middle East is a tinderbox, and it is coming apart at the seams," which isn't wrong but is a slightly convoluted way of thinking about how those Old Tyme boxes actually worked.

Wesley Clark: Get the Iraqis involved in taking responsibilities

[The US should] put in place some kind of Iraqi government that has some semblance of democracy. I'd call for provisional, national, regional & local councils together from all parties before elections are held. I'd ask for their assistance, their ideas and their support in producing security in the region first and guarding the remaining economic infrastructure. I would lay out to them the limitations of the US' capabilities. I'd try to get the Iraqis increasingly involved in taking responsibilities.

Kari Lake: Why are we sending weapons and ammunition to Ukraine?

Lake has accused the U.S. media and "globalist" political leaders of failing to back peace talks to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict, raising the risk of World War III breaking out. "The people of Arizona are asking why are we sending $200 billion to
