The Cleveland Plain-Dealer: on Environment

Josh Mandel: Environmental regulations beyond common sense; killing jobs

Mandel said he sees the need for environmental regulation. "I believe we need regulation in this country to protect the air we breathe, the water we drink and the environment for our kids and grandkids," he said. "My problem with the regulation coming out of Washington is I believe it's gone beyond common sense and now it's killing jobs in our state."

Mike Carey: Supreme Court ruling restricting EPA a huge victory

The U.S. Supreme Court undercut the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's ability to regulate carbon dioxide emissions from power plants in a decision sought by the State of Ohio that critics said would damage EPA's ability to fight climate change. "The decision rightfully ruled that EPA could not sidestep Congress to enact an agenda," said Carey. "It sets a precedent for other agencies that they can't essentially create law. They need to go through Congress. It's a huge victory."

Shontel Brown: Supreme Court gutting EPA's ability to protect air & water

[On Environmental Protection Agency]: "This latest damaging decision will gut EPA's ability to protect clean air and water and fight climate change," said a statement from Shontel Brown. "It will lead to more pollution and, therefore, greater risks to the health and livelihoods of people in Northeast Ohio and beyond. What's more, at a time when action addressing climate change is at a premium, this decision will kneecap our ability to address harmful power plant emissions."
