PBS Newshour: on War & Peace

Susan Rice: We sold out the Kurds in Syria

We have sold out the Kurds, who fought on our behalf against ISIS with our support. We provided training and advice and support to the Kurds, who were taking the fight to ISIS, quite effectively. The president's decision to pull out was more than a green light. It was a red carpet. And we have seen what the Turks have done. They're waging a relentless fight, 100,000 people displaced. And now for the administration to turn around and say, "but we really didn't mean it," strains credulity.

Mike Pence: North Korea must abandon its nuclear ambitions

"But the era of strategic patience is over," he declared. "President Trump has made it clear that the patience of the United States and our allies in this region has run out and we want to see change. We want to see North Korea abandon its reckless path of the development of nuclear weapons, and also its continual use and testing of ballistic missiles is unacceptable."

Pete Buttigieg: Pull troops out of Afghanistan, but not Syria

Buttigieg says his experience serving as a Navy intelligence officer in Afghanistan helped shaped his views. Buttigieg supports pulling troops out of Afghanistan, but has criticized Trump's plans to withdraw from Syria.

Ben Carson: Untie the military's hands; let them destroy ISIS

On Islamic State, Carson says the U.S. should step up its efforts to destroy the Islamic State militant group, and not "tie" the military's hands.

In February, Carson said America must step up its leadership in the effort to combat Islamic State. At CPAC, Carson said he would order the military to destroy the group and would not "tie (the military's) hands."
