George W. Bush: Praises Congress' $792 billion tax cut

Bush praised Republicans in Congress for passing a $792 billion tax cut bill. "Prosperity is not a given," Bush said, "I'm for the tax cut, once we meet our basic needs, because I want our economy to continue to grow."

Janet Yellen: Corporations & wealthy need to pay their fair share

Yellen said pandemic relief would take priority over tax increases, but corporations and the wealthy, which both benefited from 2017 Republican tax cuts "need to pay their fair share."

She raised eyebrows of some senators and Wall Street when she said that Treasury would consider the possibility of taxing unrealized capital gains - through a "mark-to-market" mechanism - as well as other approaches to boost revenues.

Vladimir Putin: Increased mineral extraction tax three times in a year

Putin said that Russia will raise a mineral extraction tax (MET) on metals producers in 2022. The idea to withdraw excess profits from mining firms was introduced by Deputy Finance Minister Alexei Sazanov. It would be the third tax increase for the Russian metals and mining industry since the start of this year, when the government raised the MET export tax for metals firms.
