John Roberts: Ok to search cars without particular evidence in mind

Joined a unanimous opinion ruling that a police officer who searched the trunk of a car without saying that he was looking for evidence of a crime (the standard for constitutionality) still conducted the search legally, because there was a reasonable basis to think contraband was in the trunk, regardless of whether the officer was thinking in those terms. (U.S. v. Brown, 2004)

Lauren Witzke: Admits having run drugs for Mexican cartels

Witzke said she became addicted to painkillers and, eventually, heroin. "I ended up in a situation that I never thought I'd find myself in: I was running drugs, actually, for the Mexican cartels," she told WDEL radio in May. "These people came here 100 percent legally, chain migration brought people here who will sell drugs to Americans and not think twice if it will kill them. They will sell these drugs to American children; they will sell them to your families, and they don't care."
