In Austin, Marchant was a key player in the home equity loan bill in 1997. That same year, he sponsored a highly contentious bill that required parental notification before girls under 18 could receive an abortion. The bill died on a technicality.

On Tax Reform: Make Bush’s tax cuts permanent

No. 1 on his “12-point Republican action plan” is making Bush’s tax cuts permanent. He also lists improving commuter traffic flow, making health care affordable, protecting family values and religious freedoms, education excellence and local control, winning the war against terrorism, cracking down on illegal immigration, less government and more free enterprise and protecting Second Amendment rights.
