Vox Media: on Government Reform

Cynthia Nixon: Main focus of campaign is exposing ongoing corruption

Cynthia Nixon, the "Sex and the City" actress and activist, is challenging incumbent New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, shaking up an otherwise sleepy Democratic primary race. Nixon's candidacy so far has targeted Cuomo's weak spots both locally and statewide, from the city's subway crisis to the corruption scandals that have continued to plague Albany, the state's capital.

Elizabeth Warren: End corruption of government by corporations & billionaires

The main planks of Warren's updated anti-corruption plan includ[es] banning forced arbitration clauses and class action waivers for all employment, consumer protection, antitrust, and civil rights cases. "Widely popular policies are stymied because giant corporations and billionaires who don't want to pay taxes or follow any rules use their money and influence to stand in the way of big, structural change," Warren writes. "We've got to call that out for what it is: corruption, plain and simple."

Ketanji Brown Jackson: Executive privilege not absolute; Presidents are not kings

In Committee on the Judiciary v. McGahn Jackson rejected the Trump administration's claim that "a President's senior-level aides have absolute testimonial immunity" from a subpoena, after a House committee subpoenaed former Trump White House counsel Don McGahn. Jackson's opinion in McGahn may be best known for one of its most widely quoted lines: "Presidents are not kings," Jackson wrote, and "they do not have subjects, bound by loyalty or blood, whose destiny they are entitled to control."
