Brett Kavanaugh: Banning semiautomatic rifles & handgun registration unlawful

On the historical and traditional grounds, Kavanaugh argued that the ban on semiautomatic rifles and handgun registration requirements are unconstitutional. He reasoned that semiautomatic rifles "have not traditionally been banned and are in common use by law-abiding citizens for self-defense." Similarly, he claimed that the "registration of all lawfully possessed guns--as distinct from licensing of gun owners or mandatory recordkeeping by gun sellers - has not traditionally been required."

Donald Trump: Teachers with gun training should be allowed to carry

When we declare our schools to be gun-free zones, it just puts our students in far more danger. Well trained, gun adept teachers and coaches and people that work in those buildings, people that were in the Marines for 20 years, and retired, people in the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, the Coast Guard, people that are adept with guns, they teach. I don't want to have 100 guards standing with rifles all over the school. You do a conceal carry permit. And this would be a major deterrent.

Veronica Escobar: Hate speech stokes gun violence and mass shootings

Escobar has been a vocal critic of Trump's immigration rhetoric and policies sending asylum seekers back to Mexico, arguing that they have stoked the kind of hate that led to last year's shooting in El Paso, in which 22 people died. She invoked the same argument in her rebuttal [to Trump's State of the Union speech], calling for legislation to ameliorate the gun violence epidemic and reiterated that the El Paso shooter used the "same hateful words" that Trump uses when referring to immigrants.

Wayne Messam: No guns for mentally ill, domestic abusers, watch lists

He proposes restrictions on firearm access. He does not propose taking away everyone's guns, but he does want to empower law enforcement officials to thoroughly ensure people suffering from mental illness, people on national security watch lists, and those with records of domestic abuse cannot access firearms in any way.
