Alvin Greene:
Party officials claim Greene does not share their values
After Greene won the primary, State Democratic Party chairwoman Carol Fowler said she had not seen Greene since he filed to run. He did not attend the state Democratic convention, and attempted to pay his $10,400 filing fee with a personal check, rather
than a campaign check. The day after the primary, the media reported that Greene was facing felony obscenity charges stemming from a 2009 arrest for allegedly showing a pornographic picture to an 18-year-old female University of S.C. student, who then
called campus police.
As a result of these charges, Fowler issued a statement calling for Greene to drop out of the race, saying, "We are proud to have nominated a Democratic ticket this year that, with the apparent exception of Mr. Greene, reflects
S.C.'s values."
Greene refused to bow out of the race and announced that "The people have spoken. We need to be pro-South Carolina, not anti-Greene." The Party executive committee voted 5 to 1 to reject a call for a new Senate primary.

primary race against candidate Vic Rawl on June 8 with 59% of the vote, despite very limited campaigning and no website. The SC Democratic Party rejected Rawl's request for a new Senate primary after questions were raised about Greene's surprise victory.

Cynthia McKinney:
Oct. 2007: Resigned Democratic Party & joined Green Party
Cynthia Ann McKinney (born March 17, 1955) served as a Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1993 to 2003, and from 2005 to 2007, representing Georgia’s fourth congressional district. McKinney was defeated in the 2006
Democratic primary, losing her Congressional seat for the second time. She quit the Democratic Party in September 2007 and on October 22, 2007, filed paperwork with the FEC creating an exploratory committee for a Green Party presidential campaign.

Cynthia McKinney:
Lost 2002 primary; sued against “open primary” & lost
In 2002, McKinney was defeated in the Democratic primary by DeKalb County judge Denise Majette. It was stunning by itself that Majette, who had never run in a partisan contest before, was able to unseat the seemingly entrenched McKinney. However,
Majette won by an overwhelming margin, garnering 58% of the vote to McKinney’s 42%.McKinney protested the result in court, claiming that thousands of Republicans, knowing they had no realistic chance of defeating her in the November general election,
had voted in the Democratic primary against McKinney in revenge for her anti-Bush administration views and her allegations of possible voter fraud in Florida in the 2000 Presidential Election.
Like 20 other states, Georgia operates an open primary:
voters do not align with a political party when they register to vote and may participate in whichever party’s primary election they choose. McKinney claimed the open primary system was unconstitutional. The district court dismissed the case.

Apology on House floor for punching Capitol Police officer
On the morning of March 29, 2006, McKinney entered the House Office Building and proceeded past the security checkpoint, walking around the metal detector. Members of Congress have identifying lapel pins & are not required to pass through metal detectors
The officers present failed to recognize McKinney as a member of Congress because she was not wearing the appropriate lapel pin. She was grabbed by US Capitol Police officer Paul McKenna, who states that he had been calling after her: “Ma’am, Ma’am!”
Two days later, Officer McKenna filed a police report claiming that McKinney had struck “his chest with a closed fist.”In the midst of a media frenzy, McKinney made an apology on the floor of the House of Representatives on April 6,
2006, neither admitting to nor denying the charge, stating only that: “There should not have been any physical contact in this incident.” McKinney was not indicted for criminal charges nor subjected to disciplinary action by the House.

Democratic Party:
Planned 12 Democratic 2020 presidential primary debates
In an interview with Politico regarding the March 15 debate, a DNC official confirmed a twelfth debate was still being planned. Two candidates (Gabbard and Sanders) suspended their campaigns between the eleventh and twelfth debates, leaving
Biden as the only remaining major candidate. Prior to suspending his campaign, Sanders stated that he planned to participate in the debate. Biden dismissed the idea, however: "My focus is just dealing with this crisis right now.
I haven't thought about any more debates. I think we've had enough debates. I think we should get on with this." It is likely that the debate would have been hosted in an East Coast location, such as New York City. On April 8, 2020,
Sanders dropped out of the Democratic primary, leaving Joe Biden as the presumptive Democratic nominee. In early June 2020, Biden passed the threshold of 1,991 delegates to gain the nomination at the 2020 Democratic National Convention.

John Edwards:
Maintains PAC, One America Committee
Many experts believe that it is a certainty that John Edwards will run for President again in 2008. Those experts cite Edwards keeping his political action committee, the One America Committee, open and also the fact that Edwards has given many speeches
in such key states as Iowa, New Hampshire, and Wisconsin as reason to believe he will be running for President in 2008. Many people view Edwards as one of if not the main contender to go up against early favorite Hillary Clinton, thanks especially to his
change of position on the Iraq War. It is believed that Edwards may face Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh, Delaware Sen. Joe Biden, former NATO General Wesley Clark, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, former South Dakota Sen. Tom Daschle, Connecticut Sen. Christopher
Dodd, Wisconsin Sen. Russ Feingold, former running mate John Kerry, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, Iowa Gov.Tom Vilsack, former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner, and possibly others for the Democratic Party nomination.

Mark Warner:
Term-limited as governor in 2008
Warner is considered to be a potential Presidential candidate in 2008, as Virginia's laws limited him to a single consecutive term in office. Warner has been regarded by some Democrats as a Clinton-like figure around whom the party could rally in the
2008 election. His business experience, Southern base, fundraising connections within high-tech and venture capital circles, and record of working with black leaders add up to what some see as an attractive political r‚sum‚.
Having served only one term as an elected official, however, some believe that Warner may be considered too inexperienced to move to the Presidency; the same point was raised about John Edwards' one Senate term.
But others maintain that his challenge would be no different than that of then Governor Clinton in 1992 who nevertheless was successful in capturing the White House.

Mark Warner:
We can't win presidency in only 16 blue states
Many Democratic candidates in marginal and Republican leaning states across the country, but especially in the South, are fearful of a repeat of the 2000 and 2004 election results. Governor Warner himself has made frequent references to these sentiments
with a not so thinly veiled warning to the Democratic party about nominating candidates for national office "that are only expected to win 16 blue states and then hope to win Ohio or Florida". Democratic nominees have been unable to break into a perceive
Republican lock of red states throughout middle America. Some political analysts maintain that the Democratic nominee will never win the White House unless he or she significantly expands Democratic winning margins into present day Republican territory.
Some believe Governor Warner's message is intended to highlight the perceived weakness in some of his potential 2008 liberal primary competitors, who many fear could easily win the Democratic Presidential primary but fail to win the general election.

Came in 3rd for Vice Presidential nomination in 1972
Gravel actively campaigned for the office of Vice President during the 1972 presidential election. At the 1972 Democratic National Convention, he was nominated and addressed the convention and won 226 delegate votes, coming in third behind
Senator Thomas Eagleton of Missouri, who was the convention's choice, and Frances "Sissy" Farenthold, stealing 407 votes from Gravel in a ploy by McGovern who was blocking Gravel from securing the Vice-Presidential nomination.

Ronnie Musgrove:
2003: "Tragedy" to remove Ten Commandments from MS Capitol
In August 2003, Musgrove sent an invitation via state letterhead to display judge Roy Moore's unconstitutional--as ruled by the U.S. Supreme Court--Ten Commandments monument in the Mississippi Capitol for a week in September. In the letter,
Musgrove praised the judge, calling the Ten Commandments "the basis for our legal tradition" and announced that he would call on other governors to display the monument in their state capitols as well.
Musgrove further wrote, "It would be my honor to host this monument as a symbol of every Mississippian's dedication to the fundamental principles of the Ten Commandments." Even further,
Musgrove invoked "our Christian heritage," condemned "groups like the ACLU," and said there is "no freedom from religion." He called the removal of the Ten Commandments from the Alabama Supreme Court building a "tragedy".

Russell Feingold:
Launched presidential PAC, the Progressive Patriots Fund
There is talk of Feingold seeking the Democratic Party's Presidential or Vice-Presidential nomination in 2008. In late January 2005, Feingold said that he intended to travel around the country before deciding whether or not to run in 2008. In March 2005,
his senate campaign registered the domain www.russfeingold.com; Feingold will not face reelection to the Senate until the 2010 election. On June 1, 2005, Feingold launched a political action committee, the Progressive Patriots Fund. Launching a
PAC is seen as an important step in running for President.Although Feingold usually receives support in the single digits in opinion polls featuring various potential Democratic presidential candidates, he remains highly popular among Democratic
grassroots activists. Many of Feingold's supporters blame his low results in scientific polling on poor name recognition. Feingold has consistently polled ahead of other potential Democratic presidential candidates who haven't run a national race before.

Ted Stevens:
Under investigation by IRS; home searched by FBI in 2007
Stevens is currently under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for possible corruption based on his relationship with an oil service company executive who has pled guilty to bribing Alaskan
legislators, including Stevens' son, former State Senator Ben Stevens. On July 30, 2007, the IRS and the FBI searched Stevens' home in Alaska. On May 29, 2007, the Anchorage Daily News reported that the FBI and a federal grand jury were investigating
an "extensive" remodeling project at Stevens' home in Girdwood. The remodeling work, which more than doubled the size of the modest home, was organized by VECO Corporation, an oil-field service company that has long been a strong lobbying presence in
Juneau. Earlier in May, two top Veco executives pleaded guilty to federal conspiracy, bribery and tax charges. Stevens had hired "Washington's most powerful and expensive lawyer", Brendan Sullivan Jr., in response to the investigation.
